Mdc Enforcement Issues

I attended a meeting at Greenfield, MO thurs sponsored by a new group forming throughout the state called Common Sense Conservation. Writer Larry Dablemont was there and related enforcement issues and spending issues happening with MDC and hunters/fishermen throughout the state.

I was astounded and if even half the stuff he cited was true that MDC needs some outside oversite!

Stories of a 1.5 million $150,000 dollar (my correction from re-reading notes) contract for writing a book for MDC given to a former employee with no outside bids, trophy deer taken from hunters for a variety of issues and used for "educational purposes" only to end up in the homes of employee friends, citing individuals for fishing without a license when they offered assistance to an elderly fishman with baiting a hook, and on and on.

My impression is that there was much truth in what he was relating. He also stated up front that this group was not to be a "witch hunt" but more of an assisting group for issues where the public appeared to be victimized by MDC Enforcement, a watch dog for uncontrolled MDC spending, and other similiar issues. They related over and over they were not for protecting anybody guilty of criminal activities.

Anyway, it peaked my interest, especially when Dablemont related the fact that the Springfield News Leader had dropped his column when he tried to raise these issues and that the Joplin Globe would not print any stories critical of the MDC.

I don't doubt any of it! 10 years ago or more a bunch of Arkansas conservation people were busted for using live trout for stripers... I know this stuff goes on.

Dabblemont really has it in for the MDC...and I dont know why. His fanatacism does nothing for his credibility, IMO....I enjoy his hunting & fishing stuff but I usually ignore his MDC rants when I run across one.

A " Watch Dog" for the MDC. Seems there is always someone trying to Watch dog someone. Good luck with that for if the author had true evidance of these things his stories would have been picked up by a national news outlit im sure.

I quit reading Mr. Dablemont many years ago after one of his articles in the Springfield News-Leader on how not many people grabbed suckers anymore like his Grandpa had taught him. He had just returned from a trip on the Pommde River over Memorial Day Weekend and " had got a limit " in short order and was surprised no one else was "grabbing". The problem I have is that "snagging season" has closed on May 15 as long as I can remember. Figured if Mr. Dablemont would "grab in season" he might see a few more folks participating..... While I think that Mr. Dablemont is a gifted writer, he might be better served in some area other than the outdoors.

These are fairly serious charges...Where is the evidence? I need to see something more than stories or rumors before I'm putting any stock in what Larry Dabblemont says, who consistently seems to have a vendetta against the MDC.

The fact is, the MDC makes mistakes, but they do overall a great job protecting our resources. I don't understand all the efforts to demonize them. If there's proof of serious corruption and wrong-doing then I'll come around, but I'd bet there's more smoke than fire here.

With LD involved, I would steer clear and not wear my pork chop suit into the lion's den. He is pretty much bogus in my book. Some of his growing up exploits on the big piney are questionable seeing how he grew up out east somewhere. He copy and pastes articles with his name attached. Just my 2 cents. And like I said in an earlier articles about this issue, don't bring your town hall meeting to my town. You will not be welcome.

The dude has been on this crusade for long enough that if it was ever gonna lead to anything it would have by now. No doubt that most of his accusations are true but what is anyone ever gonna do about it?
