Things we've done down and around there that we liked include some stuff already mentioned: Silver Dollar City, Big Cedar, Eureka Springs, Shepherd of the Hills (the play, but there's the hatchery too), Dogwood Canyon. We loved the lodging at Big Cedar, and the food was good too. Clay Self, the singing cowboy in the bar restaurant at BC, is a crack up. Ate at Top of the Rock and remember it was good, but don't remember what I had. Cool view too. We never did a show, but there's a bo-zillion of them and some are sposta be excellent. It's probably a taste thing.

It's almost like we felt when we went to Disney World -- just too freakin' much to do. So just pick your stuff, have a good time and don't look back.

The Titanic seems popular, but aside from that Silver Dollar city is probably the best bang for the buck.

I've never been to the steakhose in Shell Knob, but I've it was very good and Dannas is good BBQ and its just up the road on old 13, on west side.

If you're cooking, Harter House grocery, on 13 at KC has a meat counter and good meat. If you like to grill hamburgers try their Boston burger.

I recomend the Titanic Museum, and if it is still there, Ripleys Believe it or Not. I would tell you to do one or the other, as they both take a few hours to go through thoroughly, and can be mentally exausting :-). I wanted to check out the wax museum, but did not have time. Silver dollar city has alot to see and enjoy. I like the info given by the locals on the board, they would know best.

I second the Shepherd of the Hills outdoor theatre. Good show with some awesome history mixed in and it starts late (so you can fish till early evening) and easy to get to it from KC.

I also think College of the Ozarks is just super impressive. Not just the grounds but the history and example they set. And it's free to visit. Their restaraunt is allegedly good but I think quite pricey.

The Dewey Short visitor center and the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery are free (I think) and very nice.

And you really can't go wrong with The Landing one evening. It's just a glorified outdoor shopping area but well done.

Silver Dollar City is still great if you haven't been.

As for the steak IDK but share your feedback if you find a one you like.

Thnks guys, i forgot about SDC. Also to touch on another Restaurant or so.

Rocky's this is an Italian Joint, but they serve up some really good Prime Rib. Don't get the big Cut. I'm a Carnavor, but I cannot handle it. Rocky's salad is also very good.

Mr. G's. This place is off the hook for Ice Cold Adult Beverages if you like 2 inches of Crystal Ice on the top of your draft beer in a super frozen mug. Their pasta dishes and salads are without a doubt the best in Branson, everything homemade. The draw back is this is a smoking establishment. Also the lodge guest we have sent have named the service help the Pizza Nazi as the service can be very poor. Food and drinks are more than worth the wait, and you can giggle at the service. Pizza is fantastic.

Weekend, Try the Coyote Grill at Port of Kimberling, for fun, dining on the lake. Everything I have eaten in this dockside restaurant was yummy.

For that special night however. Steak Inn Shell Knob Missouri. If it is really special have their Steak and Lobster. words cannot discribe how good it is. Everything over a charcoal grill. Salad Bar will be the freshest and best you have ever had. Steak will come exactly at the temperature you order it and will be choice.

Good Luck

Adding to restaurants, for others not so far from the east side, the Farm House in Old Town is great place to eat American food. There is also a restaurant north on 13 past the Reeds Spring turn-off called Gateway that has good food.

I think I was misunderstood a little. I couldn't afford one of the cabins at Big Cedar, no way, even with a discount since my wife works at the BPS up here in Olathe. I know there are several other cabins you can stay at and the regular rooms at B.C. are very nice and it's a cool place to stay with lots of activities to do, good dining close, and right on the lake. Something maybe to check out on a future trip.

We must have gone to the wrong shows. We saw the Titanic thing. It was cool but $40 at ticket?? Thought that was a little steep. Ripley's was $35 a head. Would have cost more for those two things than it did for a night at B.C. and that would have only taken a few hours at best. This are just my opinions an experiences from a single trip though. Obviously the fellas that live in the area would know better than I do what is good and what isn't.

My wording was a little strong on my orginal post I suppose as chances are there are some people on here that probably have family members or friends that depend on Branson for work. So I'll say it was not for me or my wife but obviously people come by the hundreds to see the shows every year so there must be something to it.

I have been plunking around on the computer some more and was wondering what you all think of the Branson Belle dinner/show cruise?

Thank you all again very much for your input. It is greatly appreciated!!

It isn't cheap, but its not out of line with any other part of the country. Silver Dollar City is expensive also, but you can be entertained all day there.

I might add the Branson Bell to the list also.

Ahhh -- don't sweat it. Branson's a love/hate thing for a lot of folks. I'm not much of a 'show' guy either, but I've heard enough from folks to believe they're worth checking out if it's your cuppa tea.
