siu, if you want to try another part of the Big Muddy go up to Rend Lake below the dam. Take a box of Wheaties to make dough balls. Use your long rod and lob them up to the dam face. It use to be carp galore there. You could have a blast. Speaking of carp, I caught one about four pounds yesterday at K Bridge. Bread doughball that I had been using to catch perch for the dogs to play with. Put a bigger bread ball on and cast out into deeper water and caught 2 channels about 2lbs apiece. Started raining and Karen wanted to leave. All the fish came on my ultra and 2lb test. I sort of like that junk fishing at times!

Anyone ever put a canoe in the big Muddy? I've been kicking round the idea of putting in at Columbia Bottoms and run the chain of rocks and take out at the riverfront landing. Not sure if it would be any fun or pretty drab. I would think the time would be at these low levels.

CWF, I would still be cautious to canoe in the Mississipi. The tugs and the barges put up a good wake, even now. I have seen a few jon boats that would have a hard time to take the wakes. If you were really on the look out, you should be ok, but I don't know how much fishing you could get done.

Dude, once we get just a little more rain contact me and we'll put my boat in @ the Bottoms, I fish there from about now until the end of October.....we will hammer Hybrids up to 12 lbs, White Bass, Sauger, Walleye, Drum, Flatheads and just about every other fish in that ditch.

It won't be in a canoe but, my 20 foot Seaark will be much safer and you won't spill any tequila. If you insist on using a non motorized hull have fun and wear a life jacket,

I have seen quite a few small jon boats capsize out there.the chain bridge right now is a three to four foot rock ledge...I have to go thru the canal with the barges. We go from the Bottoms down to and up to the lock, down to the Arch. I have some very nice spots around Bryan Island on the Missouri you would like....let me know....I think I'm going this weekend

Thanks for the offer. May take you up on that. Wouldn't mind doing it in the canoe just for the sight-seeing part of it. Probably wouldn't even take a rod.

My fall hell has started though with kids sports. Not sure when I will get time to get away.

my son is playing fall ball + on 2 soccer teams

middle daughter is playing fall ball, soccer, and volleyball

youngest daughter is playing soccer and volleyball

Will the real Big Muddy please stand up?

His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
