Justin Spencer Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Thankfully the people of Missouri have spoken and we continue to have the 2nd cheapest cigarettes in the nation (behind fellow SEC power South Carolina). Guess we'll have to raise property, income or fuel taxes to make some money. If we want the feds to cut programs the states will have to foot the bill somewhere, maybe groceries? ColdWaterFshr Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Yeah, that one boggles the mind how it failed. I've heard people say they couldn't vote for it because they didn't believe the money would go for education. I say who cares where it goes, general funds, I don't care, maybe it should go to fund all the medicaid folks dying in the hospital of lung cancer.

Maybe we should just outlaw cigarettes now that reefer is making a comeback! Justin Spencer Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 I'm already packing my bags for Colorado Wish we'd pass that in Missouri, I'd much rather have a campground full of stoners than drunks! Here is a link to cigarette taxes state by state, Missouri ranks 51st and here I thought there were only 50 states, how is Mo. this out of touch with the rest of the country? It's not like we grow a bunch of tobacco here. http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/cigarette.pdf "The problem with a politician’s quote on Facebook is you don’t know whether or not they really said it." –Abraham Lincoln Tales of an Ozark Campground Proprietor Dead Drift Fly Shop

ness Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Somebody mounted a pretty good campaign against that tax. Seems like I was seeing ads, billboards and even hand written signs at convenience stores. Common theme was the 700% increase, or something like that. A tax like that is about as close as you get to free money. Too bad for your schools. Maybe open a bunch more casinos? John
Justin Spencer Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 Not sure what it really means, but interesting that Missouri has the lowest cigarette taxes in the nation, second lowest liquor tax, and highest meth lab busts. We like to feel good on the cheap. Gavin Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 The argument that our tax is too low, because its higher elsewhere. Is just plain silly, IMO...Other less enlightened states should be lowering their tax rates to match ours, put more money in their citizens pockets and stimulate the economy.

Much like the billboard referendum a few years ago cooperate profits trump the best interest of our state. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
