Jack Jones Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I would GLADLY support taxing churches and their properties. There are many churches in my area here that are huge and function no differently than a corporation. The only difference is they are selling Jesus and commoditizing Christianity. And, I suppose soda can be considered a product manipulated to make it addictive if you take into account the caffeine, but otherwise, I wouldn't put it in the same category. Some things should be put to a vote of the people, some maybe should stay in the legislature. We could debate which is which. I am all for lower tax amounts spread over more goods as a means of making cure everyone is contributing. Daryk Campbell Sr Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 NO NEW TAXES. Lets run the country like we do our households. Can't afford it, don't buy it. There are many charities that will help pay for medical problems or bills, government should not be held to pay for people's misfortunes whether they put it on themselves or not. Smoking isshown to cause problems, but, I believe there are many other things that cause the same problems that cigarettes are blamed on. Take car exaust for one. If you were to close yourself in a confined space with limited fresh air while a car is running in that same space, you will most likely get some kind of respiratory disease (example Lung Cancer). We do this to ourselves daily while driving behind someone else's car with our windows rolled up using a/c or the heater. Yet, we scream unfair when we have to take our car to the emmission stations and it fails. Just a start on many things we do that can cause the problems blamed on smoking. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. Justin Spencer Posted November 8, 2012 Author Posted November 8, 2012 NO NEW TAXES. Lets run the country like we do our households. Can't afford it, don't buy it. Right now we can afford anything, so do we shut down the military, stop social security, etc. No one wants to see the automatic spending cuts take effect or the Bush tax cuts expire, but that is about to happen if congress can't get their act together, passing more taxes like what was proposed in prop B might have taken a little pressure off the budget and prevented more county taxes directed toward education. Fact is you are going to be taxed, we cut federal spending it will have to be made up by state taxes, we cut state taxes it will have to be made up locally. Unless we want to defend our country with our deer rifles, send our kids to crappy schools, drive on crumbling roads, have no security when we are too old to work, and are left to die if we can't afford healthcare we are going to have to find ways to pay for it, and taxes are a neccesary evil, I just think if some of those taxes are "voluntary" like a cigarette tax, then all the better. Chief Grey Bear Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I guess there are two ways to think about it. Small taxes on things that everyone uses is a good way to raise funds but hurt everyone. So a penny on a can of corn is hurting you?? moguy1973 Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Pop is not a nessesity of life. But people are bringing up that soft drinks are another additive manipulated product to make you consume more of that product like tobacco products are. Im just saying not all soft drinks are. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
