How Is This Economy Affecting Your Fishing?

Starving through winter has been your m.o. for years.

Yeah but that:s just a game I play cuz I get lazy when it's cold out.... I can't honestly blame it on a poor economy. That would just be a cop out. I'm hip to the reality of it all.

So Jerry, does that mean that when they all hit their limit and judgements fall against them that there will be 5 dollar Wiggle warts again? Sweet!

probably $3 wiggle warts. 15% real unemployment, and who knows what underemployment is. Those who have it though sure still flaunt it. I thought when bassboat prices hit 20K in the late nineties that it would be end of of the bass boat market. LOL! Which means, I don't know nothing beyond reality. Seriously, you can only live so long on borrowed time.

During a period of insane boredom the other day I was listening to the Dave Ramsey show on the radio, and people were calling in to brag and scream with excitement about how they had become DEBT FREE (except for their house) while making 170k+/year....

And I was like.... Oh please, FO !

I mean seriously? You bring home 170k/year and you were stressed out over some credit card bills and a car payment ? WTH?

They said they had to eat rice and beans, and really sacrifice to pull this debt snowball off. I was speechless.

OK, here's the deal ... I know we have to be responsible and pay our bills and take care of necessities first, and Donna and I do just that. But we are not gonna sit around and not go fishing because of some doom and gloom economic forecast. If I have money to make my boat and truck payments and a little left over to put gas in both and buy a couple of baits, the economy is pretty sunny in my world. Just sayin, some people are gonna sit around and fret until they wake up dead one day.

As long as my family and I are healthy and fish still swim in the lakes and creeks within my reach I can cope with just about anything else in the world going to hell in a handbasket.

I keep hearing that the economy is in the dumps ..... but I sure can't tell it by looking around. When I go to town I only see fairly new cars/trucks, hell I can't even remember the last time I saw anyone driving an old rusty beater. Gas prices are high yet the roads are always busy as can be. All the shopping mart lots are full.

The sky is full of jet trails as masses of folks travel abroad for both business and pleasure.

Real estate folks are all driving new cars, sporting 70.00 haircuts, 150.00 shoes, and 60.00 fingernails...so apparently property sales are doing well.

The bass fishermen are all towing fresh boats with sweet new trucks, throwing 30.00 wiggle warts and 50.00 jerkbaits.

Restaurant and bar parking lots are full every night of the week.

Lots of new Harleys on the road.....hell even the bikers are looking rather upper-crust.

So I dunno, unless EVERYONE is operating via credit card (which might explain the ecessive Air Miles) I just find it hard to recognize this financial peril that everyone is supposedly experiencing...... except for Me! LOL

Yep. And all of those trucks running around are all empty. I see hiring signs all over. Lots of welding jobs all over OK. Lots of oil drilling and pipelines going in too.

I think most economic issues for te majority of people are heavily influenced by choices rather than circumstance. As for me, I went to the trout parks a whole lot less this past year because of the cost of gas involved. I also, consequently, bought less fishing related stuff. Hope this next year is a bit better.
