Guest Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Now, if I could get 5 megabass jerkbaits hanging from an alabama rig..
Guest Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I would bet is not rust but has some calcium build up on it, as it has probably leaked at some point. The build up is probably at the rear of the channel and kind of grabs the weights. It would also be hard to see. Great sugestions, but if it is calcium you probably won't get it fixed so take one of the other measures. You can also add a weighted hook to the front of the bait and see if that will balance it out. Right now if our baits are not falling, we are not getting bit, so if it will sink, that is not a problem in this cold water. Good Luck Ive heard of people adding an O ring to the front hook hanger to make it sink. Adding a suspend dot, using florocarbon line, or applying a heavy coat of epoxy to the lure. Bill, whats your suggestion?
Jerry Rapp Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I think Wrench has a viral video possibility here. Take it to PB 2 around noon on a nice Saturday. Glue it to the loading dock. As everyone comes back to load their boats later, it would be interesting to see what happened.
Members GENTLE Posted January 12, 2013 Members Posted January 12, 2013 Do you have a sawzall( recepricating saw)? Tape your bait real securely to the blade(make sure you tape it far enough down the blade that it doesn't hit the frame of the saw on the up stroke), and start out at a slow speed and progressively get faster. I have done this numerous times to dislodge stuck rattles on baits, I'd at least give that a try befor drilling a hole.

It could be calcium, not rust. Maybe the oil I put in mine just dissolved or loosened some of it up? Actually, vinegar or lemon juice is good for removing calcium deposits. Either way, it's worth a try before you just throw it out.
cnr Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I'm surprised no one has mentioned sending it back to the manufacturer. If it is not visibly damaged or beat up they may replace it. I have sent a few Spros back and the company replaced them no charge. There's no warranty expressly given but it is worth a try. Send megabass an email and see what they say. Here is what their website says about warranty on their products: MEGABASS® PRODUCTS Although the Megabass USA warranty applies only to Megabass® rods as specified above, if you experience defect-related damage to any Megabass® product, please feel free to contact us. While there is no program in place to provide replacements or repairs of any kind, we encourage you to mail us any products with suspected defects for examination and reference to the Production Department in Japan. Megabass® products are manufactured with strict quality controls, and designs are constantly under scrutiny to locate areas of potential improvement. Jbrant Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 I'll try the sawzall deal and may try to contact megabass as well. I did get the balls dislodged several times by holding it upside down and hitting it on the side of the boat. Every time I cast though they would get lodged in the tail again. Maybe the sawzall would do a better job of working whatever is causing this loose.
Sore Thumbs Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Im sure if u alter it they won't give u a replacement. They will say it's not right because of the work that you did. Just a hunch.
Bill Babler Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Great point if you mess with it probably forget sending it back. Really you would be extremely lucky to send it back to Megabass and get a replacement. If it were a Spro, you would get 3 in return. This is really a pretty good topic. I have had a blast following it. I will sometimes use suspend dots, but I have a hook weighting system . I can completely change the baits weight in 3 minutes on the water after I see how it's depth is on any particular day. 99% of the people that look at the bait cannot even tell its weighted. I hate sticking dots on custom painted baits and for the most part just don't use them. On a 3 hook bait a weight near the center of the bait will cause it for the most part to fall in horizonal manner. It you want it to fall sightly tail down, like most dying shad then you can place the weight further back. If you like it head down, you know the answer. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
