Gavin Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Sounds like a nice mess of crappie, thanks for the report...Think your mystery man was cruising the parks looking for Mr. Right Now. Backed in, fruit on the dash, rainbow displayed...Nothing to be concerned about.
mic Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 darn Hog Wally, that is a hell of day for early Feb.
Hog Wally Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 I'm gonna tear the water up this year. Got plans for the Allenton access and down. The crappie are a nice filler but I want Walleye Whites and Hybrids. The crappie are biting though. Suspended no more than 2 foot deep after 10 in morn. 1/32 black grub. Match the hatch. That's all I will say about that ?

I'll see you out there Wally as I caught a few Hybrids last year and it wet my whistle so to speak.......I have some really nice areas for Hybrids from The Kirkwood ramp down to Flamm city ramp and I will be persuing
Hog Wally Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 Why are hybrids and walleye so addictive? My bass fishing stuff has been gathering dust for 3 years.
Hog Wally Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 On way home today from work I stopped by another crappie slough and there was a major (crappie bug) hatch. Who can tell me what this little aquatic nymph that flies after a brief struggle at surface is? Looks just like a big black ant with wings.

His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Gavin Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Might be a stonefly...little black ones hatch this time of year...Any of these look familiar? http://www.troutnut.com/hatch/963/Stonefly-Capniidae-Snowflies
Hog Wally Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 The middle one is a dead ringer. The crappie are so full they are puking them out. The wind blows these guys across the lake where they get hammered by the fish. The same thing is happening every year and it makes it easy to catch em. Just set a cigar bobber up with a black anything small under it and let the breeze drift it naturally across the surface no more than 16" deep. It's hilarious.
Gavin Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 There all the same bug....top one is the lavae...bottom two are adults....sounds like the perfect bite for a fly rodder.
