huntest Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I am wanting to replace the line on my spinning reels. I have honestly never been satisfied with the spinning reel line that I have selected in the past so my go to set ups have been bait casters. The way the line tangles off the end of the spool reminds me of a Lucille Ball episode... Here is my spinning gear and intended use: Phleugar President on a Skeet Reese 7'3 M drop shot rod drop shot Mitchell 301 on a TFO 7' MH spoons & occasional jigs (don't laugh the old Mitchell is mint) Quantum 20 on Falcon Original 6'6 ML crappie Older Abu Cardinal on an older Abu 6'6 m graphite backup I am okay with floro leaders if I should use mono for more limp and less line memory Please Help!
motoman Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 This is purely a personal preference for me; but I use the high visibility (bright yellow) super lines; with a 20+ foot leader of Fluoro. It casts a mile with no memory, but I still get the benefits of clear line. And the length of leader allows me to retire as needed throughout the day without re-tying a new leader. I like the high viz line to see those subtle movements in the line.:-)
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I would go with a braid and flouro leader on the drop shot rod and P-line on the others. You will cut the twisting considerably if you close the bail manually and back reel instead of the drag as much as possible. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Duck Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 For spinning reals I like Stren Magnathin. As for the tangle off the spool, I only have that problem if I put too much line on. Good Luck. Duck
Jerry Rapp Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Duck, my thoughts exactly. I respooled one of my spinning reels yesterday and over filled it and it just fell of the reel freely. I stripped 20 yards or so off and it was fine. Over spooling is very bad.
RSBreth Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 My favorite main line for spinning used to be Fireline, but I like NanoFil these days. I use a 7 or 8-foot leader (fluoro for everything except topwater) and it's the best I've ever used.
Ham Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I'm really starting to LOVE Power Pro braid on spinning with mono or fluro leaders. I do still throw just "mono". I use P-Line CX Premium 6, 8, and 10 lb for a full spool.. I'll use a little bit of everything for my leader material. I will admit BPS Excel is pretty good for the price especially when you catch it on sale. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Gavin Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Suffix Braid in 6lb with a leader is my standard...or 8lb mono...havent found a flouro line that I like yet....just spooled some Sunline...will see...very skinny when compared to other lines rated for the same lb test.
