cwc87 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 That 1652 alweld with a four stroke forty should all u need. Get a whales tale and power trim with electric start. Use ur starting battery as part of ur 24 volt trolling motor setup. Have Troutt cut into ur bench seat for gas tank and a dry storage. The perforated sheeting in the floor is the way to go.
Al Agnew Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Geez, I have the 1652 Blazer hull with a 40/30 Evinrude, and have NO problems getting up and down the river with three people in the boat. Yes, I have to keep it up at about 80% of full throttle to keep it on plane with that much of a load, but with two people and tackle, no problem at all, and I can run about as shallow as anybody, and I can get up on plane within 50 feet or so of taking off. I've got the 24 volt trolling motor and three batteries, since I have a separate starter battery. Now I don't carry a huge cooler full of beer, but other than that I suppose I carry about as much stuff as anybody. Although I ain't as big as some...the three people I have carried weigh a total of maybe 470 pounds. If you haven't already ordered that eastern boat, my thinking is it's overkill for Ozark streams. I got mine from Ernie's...only thing I'd think about other than price is how far away the place you buy it from is. It's kind of a pain to take it back down to Ellington to service.
Al Agnew Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Actually, I think the riffle above Roaring Spring eats more boats than the one right below Sand Ford. But I've never had any trouble with it. The only reason I hit the rock at Sand Ford was because I had a brain fade and, coming upstream, I cut over toward the middle of the river at the top of the riffle...just a little too early. A couple years ago, that one was REALLY scary going downstream, because you not only had to hug the bank but at the bottom you had to make a really sharp turn. It's gotten a little bit easier since.

True True! When the water is low, the riffle above the spring is scary. You better have your stuff together for that one. I swear you have a path about 6-8 ft wide to go thru! Blazerman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 You can't go wrong with a Blazer. This set up I have is great for fishing and with the 60/40 Merc, it can carry 4 people comfortably upstream or down. It is the 17/54 with a modified V. The V actually does help some with waves on windy days on opens stretches. Also has two live wells under two of the four seats plus storage under the front deck. Love it and will be getting another one set up the same way soon.
LittleRedFisherman Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 That will be a sweet setup! If you ever need a winter fishing buddy, you know how to get ahold of me..... There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Ham Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I really think I could be MORE than happy with a Blazer 17/54 with a Merc 60/40. I really was admiring all the Blazer that just about ran us over on the Current River about 100 times. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
gotmuddy Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I just sold my jetboat(1448 lowe) that I loved. it was plenty big enough for two people to fish and would run plenty shallow. I would buy a blazer in a heartbeat. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
