Quillback Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Having grown up during the 60's and 70's I'm not nearly as worried nowadays about "end of the world scenarios". I remember having bomb drills (nuclear bombs) in elementary school, couching down along the walls in the hallways, facing the wall with your hands over the back of your neck. Not that it would have done much good. Now I worry about biological weapons, or engineered viruses creating some sort of pandemic, not that I worry too much about it, but it's a concern. Ever see that movie "Dr Strangelove"? It's an old one, but a classic, and very funny in an ironic sort of way. Kind of gives you an idea of what could have happened in those days, could've happened any day, but fortunately it never did,
Justin Spencer Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I hope you really don't believe that Like I said, I have no real timeline, and don't spend time worrying about it since there is very little I can do about it, but the way we put off environmental concerns the only way we will make real changes will be when it is too late to reverse trends. I hope I'm wrong, but climates are changing much quicker than predicted and these things feed themselves and humans can't reverse these trends with the click of a button. Our economy and creature comforts will always take a front seat to doomsday predictions until it's too late. Al is probably right humans will probably muttle along for generations, but I doubt these survivors will care much about social security. Happy daylight savings. Haris122 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we can't eat money Yep. Doesn't hurt to be reminded of that from time to time.

Are we going to discuss the farcical nature of the global warming/climate change religion again? I thought that was against the rules here? John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 11, 2013 Root Admin Posted March 11, 2013 I have a lot of respect for everyone on this thread... I've only skimmed may be half what's been written but it's good debate and best of all there's no harsh words. Plus I know that fishing is going to explode pretty soon and all conversation will shift to that direction. As for hard and fast "rules", it's tough to draw that line. People here on passionate about fishing, yes, but they are passionate about other things that affect our lives, and affects our ability to go fish. I recognize that. it's all related. So why not discuss those things, as long as it stays civil and respectful. To your credit, I think everyone who has posted on this topic could all go on a 3 day float trip and have a wonderful time together, regardless of their political views. That's how it should be.

Al Agnew Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Nope, ain't gonna get drawn into the global warming debate. Indeed, we've hashed that one out before, and not many minds were changed. And it doesn't matter anyway, since I highly doubt that we as a nation and as the world are going to find the will to do anything meaningful about it until it's far too late. Over the years I've had quite a few friends who are far more conservative than I am. It's funny how, when you get face to face on a fishing trip, we can always find common ground, but on forums like this everybody seems so entrenched in their positions that it's like a game, where you lose points if you dare to acknowledge the other guy has a good point. Which, when you get down to it, is exactly what goes on in the political arena. It's all multiple games, where you score points by zinging your opponent, you score more by beating him in the election, and you win the game by taking over the Congress or the Presidency, or sweep by taking over both. And in all that, nobody really thinks about why they are supposed to be up there in the first place, which is doing what's good for the country.
