Jack Jones Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Seen many references made to catching male/female white bass. I know I'm opening a can of worms for the jokers on this forum, lol, but in all seriousness, how do you tell the difference between the two? aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 haha when i cut them open, one is full of semen and the other full off eggs.....catch and release is for rich folks, trust me....as a diver, there is no shortage of any species in any of the lakes. yeah i get the whole catch and release thing, and i do it if i have fish in the freezer. but i think its funny when anglers have to always say they do it just to make a statement.. might as well go get a bagel at panera and run by starbucks for a coffee.(TRENDY). i actuqally ate a 4lb 4 ooz largmouth the other day. sorry im not sorry if you disagree. all i can say is go scuba diving and then opinions would be totally diferent it fefinitly changed mine.
Dutch Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I think your method is the only sure fire way to tell them apart except close to the spawn some males will let go of milt when you have caught them. I have talked to biologists who say they can't tell live ones apart with any degree of finality.
fishinwrench Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 trust me....as a diver, there is no shortage of any species in any of the lakes. So folks truly wouldn't decimate the spoonbill population if selling roe was allowed? See y'all! Told ya!

fishinwrench Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Oh! Well who knew! It "sounds" way worse than that. You know what I meant though, right? LOL

Wayne SW/MO Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Well Archdale I do it because I want too, and If i was so poor I had to eat what I caught I wouldn't depend on fishing for my food, too expensive. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 This ^^^ Plus, my desire to fish frequently outsizes both legal possession limits, AND freezer space.
Ham Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I generally consider the largest fish with the obiviously swollen bellies to be sows. The little guys may be immature females or males, but regardless I strictly fish catch and release on White Bass. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
