Justin Spencer Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 If this was really an attempt for more govt control I really don't think they would have folded to the pressure and rescinded the blue way. Al Agnew Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 There's plenty of that on both sides of the fence. Lot's of people continue to trust the government and other authorities to monitor and control things despite plenty of day to day experiences that show how inefficient and wrong headed bureaucracies can be. Is it better to blindly trust that smart people are going to right thing for me and for the environment than to be concerned about an ill defined organization with nebulous goals and uncertain powers? Chide people from your high horse about how they are being manipulated by scare tactics and right bloggers, but this was whole deal was poorly organized and thought out from the start and maybe that also should raise concerns about how well it would be run down the line. What saddens me is that so often people have to insult and demean those that dare disagree. What else can you call it in this case, Ham, but willful ignorance? It's been shown that the scare tactics were lies and distortions, yet apparently a whole lot of people, including people on here, never bothered to investigate for themselves but were willing to believe what one side told them. You are right that no one side has a monopoly on these tactics, and you are also right that this wasn't handled well by the proponents. I even agree with you that it raises questions about how organized and how effective they would have been at the stated goals, since the goals were specifically to get different agencies and entities working together. But if something is a good idea in general, do you toss it because it wasn't handled very well in the beginning, or do you work to improve it?

Ham Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 There's no reason they can't do a better job of explaining themselves with clearly stated goals and some long term plans AND clearly defined limits of their authority and try again. It was pretty much dead in the water before I ever heard of it so I haven't spent time learning every detail about it. It certainly seemed to come quickly in from left field. What was the rush? Maybe I was too busy fishing and missed the last year's worth of Blueway discussion. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
bfishn Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 It was an honor, a recognition of an outstanding resource, and a suggestion on how to keep it that way. After we spit on it and threw it back, it won't likely be offered again. I can't dance like I used to.
Mitch f Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 FWIW, Mike Huckabee will have a talk on the White River Blue Way tonight. I know this is Fox news but it might be worth watching....maybe just enough to get your blood to boil "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Quillback Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 The Huck's take on this should be interesting. Thanks for the heads up.
Terrierman Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 This is really a perfect example of poor communications and failure to build consensus from the bottom up. I believe the Blueway designation was a good thing, though largely symbolic. What it also shows is how deeply Americans distrust their government, which is a very sad state of affairs.
