OzarkFishman Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I had originally planned to go to the Kimberling City area, but we decided to hit Moonshine instead. Took the "new" boat out for her "maiden" voyage. Started off trolling the banks right away and caught the first fish for the new boat on cast 3. Then, I went to start the engine. Turned the key, the engine turned over but did not take off ... I tried 3 or 4 times and then gave up for the time being. I had pumped the ball, choked the engine, done just about everything (or so I thought). We decided to forget the big engine and keep trolling ... it paid off. We saw lots of surface activity (I assumed they were whites). Once we got closer, they turned out to be spotted bass. At the time I was throwing a paddle tail fluke. I picked up 2 more fish, then my buddy noticed how small the shad were that they were busting. I switch to a little black squirmin shad and it was on (the other guy put on a blue shad). The smallmout decided they wanted to play as well. We ended the day with 12 fish in 2 hours (10 of the fish came in a 45 minute span). The biggest smallmout was 17.5" and 2.75 pounds. The biggest spot was just over 2 pounds and right around 16 inches. There was even a bonus white mixed it. This was only my second time on the Rock and the other guy rarely fishes ... this was a great day for us!!! Oh ... back to the stupidity part ... Once the bite slowed down, we decided to try the motor again. Same ... THEN ... I checked the fuel line and it WASN'T plugged into the motor ... I AM AN IDIOT!!! By this time, the starting battery was dead. Overall, it was a great way to start the day.
Jerry Rapp Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 sorry Oz, but I LOL! on this one. Experience is a great thing! But you had a great morning!
bluebasser86 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I'm sure everyone has tried to start their boat for a few minutes without any luck only to realize they'd pulled the kill switch when they stood up after their last run.
abkeenan Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I'm sure everyone has tried to start their boat for a few minutes without any luck only to realize they'd pulled the kill switch when they stood up after their last run. Guilty as charged.
huntest Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I was way down in Big Indian when I ran my starter battery too far down with the aeriators and electronics.....no jumper cable....no pliers....no wrenches. Nice gentleman stopped and jumped us. I asked him what I owed him...he told me to carry jumper cables and help someone out when the need arose
GNSfishing Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I've been there and done that more than once in the past.......
fishinwrench Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Jumper cables on boats are a no-no with me. I have pull started 150-200hp outboards with a mooring or anchor rope. Nice fish btw!
Bill Babler Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I'm going to say it was probably a good thing the engine didn't start. That is a really good Table Rock day. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
jmes Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 We all have had our time on the water with something that has happen to us in one way or the other. But to catch alot of fish makes it alot better good job
garyw Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 bought my first boat back in the 90's. took it straight to the lake. put it in the water. motor wouldn't start. buddy and i finally figured out the pump bulb was installed backward(by the factory). dealer ran it off his tank, not the boats. next we found water coming in......yup, dealer forgot to put a drain plug in and i didn't check. live and learn. hopefully
