Fall Creek Boat Ramp Question

reviving a real old post here-

I was kayak fishing the upper end of Tanyecomo last weekend and noticed the abandoned ramp just above where fall creek enters.

It is blocked by boulders and a giant log, but would still work for kayak launching.  There is parking in the area around the top of the ramp.

I called Fall creek marina and the person I spoke with said he did not know who's ramp it was or who to ask about it, but was like, sure, use it for kayaks.  It looks to me like it is part of the fall creek condo developement.

Anyone ever put in a kayak or canoe there?

Yes there is often strong current and deep water there, also a rock dike at the mouth of the creek, and strong current directs straight at the fall creek docks, a bit downstream, so caution would need to be used.  I can see why it got blocked off, does not seem like a good situation at all for boat usage.

I use a tarpon 120 kayak with a trolling motor (4 to 5 mph) and went from cooper creek up to the dam area and back twice over the weekend. Still 30 percent left on a 24 size deep cycle battery after round trip. (never float past your takeout and plan to paddle back in case they release, its just common sense)  It is a high end sit on kayak model that many use in the ocean.  This setup works well for me for a combination of wade fishing the upper area and drift fishing the rest. I can carry several each fly rods and spinning rods, cooler and plenty tackle.  I make myself very visible to boaters, the wakes do not bother me in the least, and always wear a good PFD.  I also have a 20' Champion but would not be able to get up far enough in low water where I like to flyfish at lower water levels, and besides can't bring it when we use the camper.

Would be nice to be able to launch in the  fall creek area and cut the distance in half, with or without a shuttle.  Any other known launch possibilities in that area?

I did notice another private ramp on the opposite side a little further down lake, just above short creek.

I only get down there once or twice a year, but really like the fishing there.

There is Fall Creek Marina parking at the top of the ramp and down a bit. I used to park there and pay to fish off the Marina dock all the time. Im sure you could park there and no one would ever question it

That boat ramp above fall Creek has been closed for years. A wise man would assume that the owners don't want it used for launching anything  including yaks.

You can launch at the ramp above short creek that you asked about, a kayak for sure.  At times it's gotten silted in and can be tough for a big boat and they have had to dig it out but it would be perfect for a kayak and it's nice slow water and shallow as well.  I believe they have a self pay station and ask for a small launch fee.  If I were doing what you are that is without a doubt the ramp I would use for a Yak.  Nice quiet neighborhood with good parking.

thanks, that is good info, will investigate that ramp next time, will gladly pay a reasonable launch fee.

I also had this same question while in the area last weekend. Since I was new to the area, fishing solo in my Outcast Stealth Pro pontoon, I was looking for access points. Someone at Lilly's Landing pointed me in the general area and then I spoke to the folks at the Fall Creek Marina about the ramp. They didn't think there would be any problems with using it the way I was describing. I read this thread prior to visiting and search everywhere for information around the boat ramp (which I know is closed to big boats). There are no signs except your typical "fishing regulations" sign (wish I would have taken a picture). But no signs like: No Trespassing, No parking, Private Property - no signs what so ever - therefore I used the ramp last Sunday and fished that section of the river for 5- 6 hours without problems. 

I want to respect the property owners and rules of the area, but after it being suggested by two marinas and lack of signage, I felt it was worth the risk to try it out. If anyone knows anything definitively different, please let me know. I plan to return someday.
