Quillback Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 That does suck, abkeenan, but thankfully your uncle didn't get killed. I do have a moron story for today, not nearly as bas as yours, but I'm fishing a feature known as the "Devil's backbone", which is a rocky point that runs out quite a ways and is very hazardous to navigate around, especially at low water. Anyway I'm fishing a gap in the ridge, between a big shallow rock and a rock pile that has a warning buoy on it, just a little further than a long cast between the rock and the buoy. Here comes a pontoon on plane right for me, they come through that gap on plane, maybe 30 feet from me. I'm assuming that with the confident manner they blew through there with, they know where the rocks are. But no need to blow by a stationary boat 30 feet away.
flyman Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Wow guys. That's scary. Some people just don't think. There are also lots of partiers out there too. Who knows, maybe the 13 year old was more capable of driving. I'm glad he (your uncle) wasn't seriously injured, or worse. Not only is common sense no longer common but common courtesy is also no longer with us. I have a very small boat. People sometimes fly past me like I'm not even there and nearly blow me out of the water. Come on, really?
gurzik Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 fluorescent line make a difference or not ?I throw both. If you have a blacklight it doesn't hurt
Jason Essary Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 If you have the means, I would highly suggest the black light and florescent line. I fish ALOT at night and cant stand to be without it. Maybe im spoiled. It is not a must by no means and would not keep me from going, but if its availible, its worth the trouble. motoman Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Scary stuff ab; glad things weren't worse for him. - We nightfish LOZ a bit for white bass. I bought a rechargeable spotlight at ya'll-mart. That thing is always within reach and navigation lights always on. If had to spotlight a few people who clearly never saw us at night. I don't blind them, but let them know I'm there.:-)
Members Classic Posted June 28, 2013 Author Members Posted June 28, 2013 yeah thought a black light would be better. 10 lb ?
OzarkFishman Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 A little off-topic ... Motoman, I am going to LOZ in July for my annual blue catfish trip. I am taking my 5 year old and would love to get him on some whites at night (and he would love to stay up past dark thirty). Do you just listen for feeding on top? Sorry for the highjack, but whites plus a 5 year old equals great smiles!

I've seen that happen at least half a dozen times at that spot. Closest call was when one was running in while another was coming out and I was sitting just out of their paths at the end of the bluff. I just knew either they were kissing head on, or one would dodge towards me... the bass boat headed in cut a hard left just before the shallows, and the pontoon barged right on thru the middle without a care in the world. That's one of my favorite spots, but I don't tarry there long anymore. I can't dance like I used to.
gurzik Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 yeah thought a black light would be better. 10 lb ?I use 20lb. pline mono for jigs, and 10lb. floro for the tubes and grubs.
Old plug Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Hmmmmmm MORONS at night.such genial words. Come to LOZ I can teach you some you never heard. I wanted to some electric on my dock this past week and made it a point to get stared on it at 500 am to avoid boat traffic wakes that might have knocked me off my ladder. Second morning it was very first light and what should appear but a big ski boat with running light on towing a skier. I to am scared out on the lake at times and it sure does not have to be dark.
