There are several wires in there. Gonna try to splice and shrink wrap it. Should I be concerned about doing this and being water proof and all. No problem splicing transducer cables (they are "spliced" in the connectors) but yeah you gotta seal the splice to eliminate water intrusion. Liquid tape over each splice, then shrink wrap, then smear silicone over the shrink wrap.

Members NewtoFishfinder Posted November 10, 2017 Members Posted November 10, 2017 Have just stumbled across this site all the way from Sydney Australia. Looks like just the thing I am looking for. Am very very new to boating and fishing. Having just purchased my first boat, i have now had a Dragonfly 7 Pro installed, but not really sure what the hell I am looking at. Not sure if is is fish, weeds etc Anyone able to assist please? Thanks heaps
J-Doc Posted November 10, 2017 Author Posted November 10, 2017 I did not know the internet reached that far! 😆😆😆 (Joking) Looks like small groups of bait grouped up tightly together. It is suspended and floating off the bottom. If it were grass or vegetation, it would be along the bottom. Go back to pages 1-3 of this thread and read some of the simple explanations of how sonar works. And watch the video links. Things will make more sense then. Good on ya! 😉 Need marine repair? LittleRedFisherman Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 J doc. I’m interested in a sonar for the front of my boat. Strictly 2d and structure scan is all I want up there. What would you recommend something in the 400$ range give or take a little. I have a helix 9 at the console and love th side scan. 2d seems pretty good but I’ve heard you say there’s better options for strictly sonar Looking at using this for crappie and bass offshore. Thanks There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
J-Doc Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 Having been a Lowrance guy for many Years now, I'm slowly switching over to Hummingbird. I have no experience with them but here they last longer than 2-3yrs where Lowrance touch screens are failing quite a bit. I know two people that take care of their equipment who have had issues recently. Right after the warranty and Lowrance customer service was not very helpful or willing to try and help. Since you have a bird already, I'd stick with what you know. Christmas sales have units with great prices. Shop around for a good deal and good luck! Need marine repair? LittleRedFisherman Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Snapped these cool shots of a deep hole on Black river full of gar. I hung out there fishing for crappie in a nearby brush top they were hitting water like crazy. They seemed to be shaped like gar even on the graph. grizwilson and snagged in outlet 3 2 There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
J-Doc Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 If that's gar, thats a ton of them. I've never seen that many grouped up like that before. grizwilson 1 Need marine repair?
