Don't know why anyone would be surprised. The R's voted down the D's, next time the D's may vote down the R's. It doesn't matter what the issue is, it only matters that your team wins. Just like a bunch of little kids on a playground.

Yes, but it's not useless, it keeps the people distracted thinking things will only get better if we only have one party to make the rules.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

What it changes is instead of taking the word of the plant burning the coal and saying all is fine and well, they are now going to be inspected by an independent engineering firm to confirm that they are indeed telling the truth. Well, that is what was going to happen. But we can't have that. I can see a money trail here. Like always.

Watcha talkin bout here, I thought it was already established on these here forums that corporate america always has the best interest of the environment, including the air we breath, water we drink and soil we plant in at its fundamental core of business decisions. I shared some similar comments over on the 60 Trillion Dollar global warming cost post. Hey I'm not always on the EPA bandwagon but North Saint Louis just had a victory due to the EPA nailing down the former "owners & operators" of the former Carter Carburetor plant which I believe has been on the Superfund site list for nearly 3 decades or more. It seems the "former owners & operators" had a very complex corporate structure which made it difficult to pin down who was responsible for the clean up. Imagine that.

But as long as there are people collecting paychecks, pollute away. And as to those enviro-whackos might as well put a bounty on their heads.

If the coal ash is no problem lets dump it in the yards of the people producing it and the politicians who think its alright. That would solve the storage problem.

Absolutely!

And since it relieves constipation (immediately, and with prejudice) there's no better place for it.

I can't dance like I used to.

Oh, horrors! We can't have some outside party actually inspect to see if the companies are doing what they are supposed to be doing. That might cost us some tax money! We gotta just take their word for it!

Geez, guys, try just once to get off the anti-government kick and realize that there are some things that the government MUST do to protect us all, even if it means cutting into the profits of some company. This is one of them. Those companies will always be reluctant to do what needs to be done to make the those coal ash repositories safe. It's not like we don't already have plenty of instances where they weren't and disasters happened.

Al, If it were to make a difference and actually result in a noticeably cleaner world I'd be all for it. But it wouldn't. It'd be just like the Lake Ozark Watershed Alliance. Many pockets are getting lined with cash yet the sour water output of any septic system whether commercial or residential has not changed for the better one little bit.

That's all I know. Take it for what it's worth.

Oh, and none of that cash or funds is going towards cleaning anything up, it's just feeding lawyers.

We have this group of people they work for this agency called the EPA. Is there really a need for more inspectors to be paid for by us? Seriously people we have inspectors now they need to do their jobs they are paid for. This is nothing but more government spending that is NOT needed.

An independent agency would have to Inspect and test.... EPA can do that... The IA would have to submit reports to government/official agency and then that agency would have to do an investigation on the allegation and then they would have t fine or whatever the offender. So why line a IA's pockets when we already have a agency to do it.

Gee Al, You mean to tell me these companies will not follow the law and use safe measures? Goodness, just look at what a fine job BP is doing cleaning up the Gulf! Oh, I can not remember what caused the spill...but they are cleaning it up nicely...

Wrench. I do not like the water alliance either. They do not git things right. But the water quality is going to change. Morgan County Sewer District put 500 homes on line last year and did not cost anyone a penny. But it does cost me $50 a month. It is better than the constant worry about the septic tank. The people on the other side of the Gravois voted it down. That was a mistake on there part. The state told them in time it is going to happen and they will be forced to pay for it. I was told by a board member that there was talk that the state wants a lake wide sewer district that would cover all the counties around the lake and would extend back some distance from lake. I have mixed feelings about that. But there is one thing for sure change is coming. We had resistance to sewers even in my area. But you cannot resist. What they were going to do if it could not be resolved is go ahead and install all the other sewers then come back and install a sewer where those people who refused it were. Those people would have had to pay the full installation cost ($10,000+ ) and the property restoration would not be responsibility of the district the way it was with ours.

GRiZ--Had they been given their druthers they would have done nothing. BP is not even an American Company. Had it not been for government actions they would not even have got caught.
