fishinwrench Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Does anyone keep receipts and turn in their recreational off road fuel for the .13 cents a gal. (or whatever it is) tax break? I run small 2 cylinder 2-strokes on my two main fishing boats (35 and 18hp) so my "fishing fuel/oil" amounts to less than 50.00/month in the boats. And regardless of where pr how often I get to go fishing I seldom have to fill my V8 truck more often than once a week (about 70.00) given that I seldom travel more than an hour away from home to fish.
Members tkite Posted August 4, 2013 Members Posted August 4, 2013 Didnt know there was such a tax break
Members Mike Ray Posted August 5, 2013 Members Posted August 5, 2013 Well I am just a poor ole hillbillie that is LUCKY as he-- to have an old 84 Winner 17 footer with a 175 'rude. Yup it likes the gas but if you keep the rpms down I can live with it. I used to run ethanol till got to smellin raw gas .after a little lookin around found almost every gas line on it had pin holes. After a day of pulling carbs off and replacing ever gas line on it no more leaks I pay the extra for the premium non-ethanol fuel and had no problems since. I am also a firm believer of synthetic oil. This motor has never been down and still holds 100 lbs. compression across all 6. Wish I could afford one of them new fangled ,high dollar rides but facts are I can't. B>T>W> I STILL catch fish!
jmes Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I do alot of traveling to differents lake's but for Table Rock Roundtrip Truck 7 gallons Boat Sheeter with a 250 SHO depends on the day of course but I average around 5 to 8 gallons ______ Total 15 gallons @ 3.50 per gallon = $ 52.50 And yes I keep all receipt to take off of my Taxes
Members Mike Ray Posted August 6, 2013 Members Posted August 6, 2013 I live real close so truck gas aint bad unless they close Joe Bald. Depends where I go with the 'rude suckin it up but actually a day on the water cost me maybe 20 bucks not counting bait and stayin close.use the trollin motor a lot and that helps.
Members Topwater TRL Posted August 6, 2013 Members Posted August 6, 2013 For those who go alot like I do and care to mess with it, dont forget to have the gas station attendant stamp your boat gas receipts with their "off road" stamp so you can turn those in on your MO tax return for a refund of highway tax you pay in every gallon purchased. Dont quote me but i believe it was 17 cents per gallon last year. It does add up over a years time. I dont know if that applies to boat gas you buy at marinas. Just saying its like buying your boat gas for 17 cents/ gallon less. Topwater TRL
Members Topwater TRL Posted August 6, 2013 Members Posted August 6, 2013 Here's the MO Dept of Taxation website for the forms necessary to submit for the Motor Fuels Refund. http://dor.mo.gov/forms/index.php?category=18 You'll need to print off forms 4923 and 4925. Don't let the tax man keep your "off road & marine use" gas tax. Hope that helps. Topwater TRL

Jerry Rapp Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 it is funny none of the guys that drive from St. Louis or KC responded. I kept detailed records for many years of my tournament follies. Won two boats along the way, and had the website and magazine for a while to help offset costs of tourney fishing. The costs are amazing, and unless you make over $200,000 a year you are chasing a fantasy. Just the facts, add up your costs. To those that are living the dream and living on the lake and enjoying the life, kudo's to you.
Fishin Hodge Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Run a 225 Opti. The cheapest I can go is $45.00. And that is running on fumes in the truck and really limiting my running in the boat. Gosh it is easy to spend $100 if I go out there and try to fish where I want to fish, when I want to fish.
