stlfisher Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I am all for it a well. I have no issues with how it was acquired.
Quillback Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 They should hold one last concert on the property - bring in what's left of the Grateful Dead, the Bob Marley cover band, and Willie Nelson.
SpoonDog Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I don't feel terrible about the way it was handled- you'd have to be on drugs to think advertising and hosting a hippie jam festival in one of the most conservative parts of the state wouldn't raise any eyebrows. No doubt it had some great talent come through- but the other things which went on at Camp Zoe weren't exactly a secret, and that the Feds would take interest seems absolutely foreseeable. It's a pretty nice property, and having it in public hands won't hurt protection of the Current River watershed- I'd rather see it turned into a State Park than a CAFO as is happening down on the Buffalo at the moment.
Mark Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 About 30 years ago, most of us would have been considered the wrong crowd. That is a great lineup of bands, would've loved to see some of them. Gotta admit, I loved the outdoor music festivals of my youth, such as a couple NORML concerts in the Ozarks, SIU Ed Riverfests, heck even quite a few local farm jams with $10 cover and all you could drink keg beer. Poor kids nowadays have to pay $100 to go see somebody like Lady Gaga. "Come gather round young men wherever you roam, and admit that the problems of this world have grown."
fishinwrench Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I'm curious as to what keeps Ameren UE out of federal court for the goings on at Party cove. Although many locals complain to no end I guess the community really does NOT want the party cove goers to keep their toys, drugs, and money back in the city. Had the Zoe crowd spent a little more money in the local community would it have resulted in some immunity ?
Mitch f Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Nobody likes to look at hippies doing drugs (except for young naked hippie girls) but if they are clean cut and spend money they get more tolerance. It's totally not fair, I agree. Just reality. Heck, all your politicians just smile as they are stealing your wallet. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Old plug Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Money says everything out here you know that Wrench with few exceptions. Some of these people are the cool yuppie type people all week then come out here and act like what they really are.

His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Gavin Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 An 800lb gorilla like Ameren...gets what it wants. A small biz with a bad reputation gets something else.
E Green Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I havn't been here in MO very long so I have no idea about camp zoe and the history behind this story. I certainly wish many of those bands still toured in this area though because there are some seriously talented musicians included in that group. Some of those groups set the bar for the genre they represent (Del McCoury, Los Lobos, Hot Tuna). The only thing that is a major dissapointment to me in regards to living here in the southern MO Ozarks is the lack of a live music scene. Many of those bands are smaller market draws and not well known in the mainstream music world but trust me, there is some serious talent on that list (greyboy allstars, Karl Denson Tiny Universe, Leftover Salmon) Garaj Mahal is beyond talented...Fareed Haque pretty much owned the school of music at northern Illinois university. Robert Walter (west coast guy...amazing amazing credentials...berkley school of music...played with several of the bands on that list at one time or another)
