Lots of guys really like the Mike McClelland Special which is in the Falcon Cara lineup although I don't have any hands on experience with that rod. I am using a Shimano Clarus 7' MH in the Crankbait model and I love it. I put a medium in my hand at the store of the same model and didn't like it. It has just the right length and feel for me and the way I like to fish jerk baits. Most like a medium action rod for jerk baits but I don't like how soft and whippy they are but that is just me. It loads good when casting my McSticks, has a moderate tip on it and moderate bend when fighting the fish and won't pull the hooks out. Its a winner in my book and has a lifetime over the counter warranty on it and is $90 bucks. I looked at both the Compre and the Crucial but they aren't worth spending the extra money on the cranking models IMO because all 3 rods have identical components (real seat, guides, etc are all the same Fuji stuff) and all using the same TC4 composite blank. If you were buying the the 100% graphite models it might make sense to bump up to the Compre or Crucial as the IM count is higher (Clarus IM8, Compre IM9 and Crucial IM10) but not for the cranking/reaction applications.

You might also look at the Duckett Micro Magic rod in 6-6 Med Fast. I'm using one for my jerk baits and absolutely love it. Plenty of tip to throw the lighter baits (Rogues especially) farther but still plenty of backbone to handle a big fish.

Something that will handle a 1/2oz plug with a fast tip in a length you like...The rod I like is rated for 5/8oz and it a baitcaster.

Sounds like a great setup. Always fool around with the Duckett's when I see them in a store and I think that would make a very nice jerk bait rod.

Yes. Buster and I used them quite abit last year for Walleye down on bull. Had Tim Hughes custom paint some for us as at that time their selection was not what we were looking for. We just wanted the additional depth without adding to much weight to the bait. They worked really good and were our go to bait.

Fished them on the Kings where we caught all those bass that day jerkin and did well their also.

Be careful on this deal. Working a jerkbait with a 7' rod on a crowded front deck is really not for anyone under 6' tall. Just way to hard to keep that rod in the correct position and attitude to make the bait work properly.

Lots, and lots of the best Jerkbait fishermen on the White River Chain are still throwing jerkbaits on rods that are 5'5" to 6' Most pistol grips and short handle rods. I'm using a Cara T7 Jerkbait special at 6'6". Casting distance is never a factor, I'm throwing either a Diiawa Steeze or a Lews Tournament Pro with either 8 or 10 pound test.

I'm only 5'9" and cannot work a 7' rod anyway near correctly enough as I'm always slapping the side of the boat or the water with it.

I'm in the dark on who the best jerkbait fishermen on the White River lakes are.maybe I would know who you're talking about if I fished local tournaments. I don't fish many tournaments, but I'm certainly not against them.

I'll have to add a that Cara Jerkbait rod to my wish list.

I'm 6'3 and the 7 ft rod suits me fine for jerks. Had a 6'3" rod and didn't like the way it felt for jerks. Is fine for top water but not the jerkers. But good point Bill as sometimes you have to take into account your physical height when thinking of getting a rod for certain applications.
