ness Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Oh, man. Sorry to hear that. Thankfully there's still the right eye. John
Flysmallie Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Yep that sucks. Sorry Phil, hopefully everything turns out ok. Â Â

Mitch f Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Nothing against the vets but I wonder if it was a sliver of metal or foreign object of some king that was deeply imbedded and got infected? or possibly a spider bite, bee sting? Edited to say sorry didn't see until now it started out with both eyes, wonder if it was an allergic reaction gone bad "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Greasy B Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 My sisters yellow lab lost an eye a couple of years ago. Granted this is a goofy house dog but the dog never missed a beat, it's as though it never noticed the missing eye. One thing I learned is that dogs don't mope, complain or blame other for their misfortune. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 13, 2014 Author Root Admin Posted January 13, 2014 Lab results- it was a fungal infection. That's why the eye didn't react to any of the medications.
Old plug Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 In other words Phil he missed it. That happened twice to me this past year. Lost both my dog and cat. The dog was very old but the cat was not. In the dogs case I knew the symptoms and I read up on it on the internet. We took the dog to the vet. I told him the symptoms and said to him specifically that she has symptoms of kidney problems. He goes ahead and examines her checks her back and what have you and says she has a infection. Sold us some pills and we took her home. Next week she was worse. Went back to him and repeated the thing about kidneys. He said that could be. So he goes and takes a xray and comes back and says" hmmmmm i cant figure out what it could be her back and everything looks fine". I ask him where are her kidneys in the X-ray. He says on the other side, you cannot see them on this view. She died a few days later from renal failure. I am not going to discuss the cat that still hurts to do.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 14, 2014 Author Root Admin Posted January 14, 2014 What I could have done: The local vet told me on my 3rd visit to call the specialist in KC. I didn't. Not until it was too late. She said almost right off the bat it could be a fungal infection given the area I lived. Throw in the holidays- falling on Wednesday- it was tough staying in contact with the vet and the attention spent on visiting family. Jackson is doing well. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for me and may be someone else on the forum if it happens to them.
