Bill Babler Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 We probably won't get as excotic on our guide trip. Got a feeling we will be swimming some 4" something on a 1/4 oz head to staging SM Jaws. and catching more than all the lure guesses combined. When fishing the KC area in late April and May ya got to remember putting anything on the bottom in under 17' of water can and usually does have issues. Also it takes to long to take them off a triple hooked bait when its easy on a single hook. Not to mention you will catch more. I'm from the old school, I'm gona keep it simple cause I'm stupid. Thanks for the help guys. Bet we got it figgered out. Last week April windy rainy day. 1st. week May http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
ozarkgunner Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Smoke and red grub on a 3/16 darterhead. Gary Yamamoto are my grub of choice. Angler At Law
*T* Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Well I, for one, am totally on board with the grub/swimmer bite. Just sayin`, lot of options in May depending on what you prefer to do. "Water is the driving force of all Nature."Â -Leonardo da Vinci
dtrs5kprs Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Bill...it's a good thing you showed him the May pics after the April pics. That last week of April was a booger weather-wise.
Hunter53 Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 Thanks again everyone. It is truly appreciated!! Bill: we are definitely looking forward to having you get us pointed in the right direction! Showed my wife the pics and she may be more pumped up than I am. I love smallies but she goes nuts over them. LOL Trust me when I say I agree simple is good. It is just a good idea to have some other ideas from people on what to try in case what you get us started on doesn't work one day for some reason. Where we come from the 'deep' part of our lakes are 30 feet and what we call clear water is really dirty water for you guys. If we are fishing 15 foot down that is deep fishing for us. LOL I don't have a clue when it comes to you all's DEEP, CLEAR water so the simpler the better. The exception to the dirty water up here would be my in-laws ponds as they are pretty darn clear unless we have a big rain. It turns out pretty good numbers of 6-7 pound largemouth with a 9-7 being the biggest out of it. The ponds are fun but we really enjoy getting the bass boat out on the bigger lakes though. Here is a pic of the 9-7 that I caught right before I let her go back. Yeah I know I was in camo but we were fishing after shooting a bunch of doves. If any of you all ever get up to south central nebraska/north central kansas and want to fish some ponds; look me up. Here is a 6-11............ And a 5-8 that kinda shows what the pond looks like although that is only about a 1/4 of the pond...............

Those big Jaws like it rough. Meaner the day the better the Jaw bite is on the Rock. The grub bite is usually so good that time of the year it renders all other baits just durn near useless. It does a multitude of things. It is a bait that covers water in a very big hurry and not only that it can cover the entire water column from top to anydepth. It finds fish and allows you to concentrate on them. A very good compliment for the grub here is it reduces the size of the lake. Cannot beat that pond fishing for size and numbers. My Inlaws have 4 big ponds on their farm in Northern Missouri. YOu can catch big fish on a buzz bait or a frog up there from April thru October. They are HUNGRY and no one bothers them. Great Fishing http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

Great Fishing Over the years I have come to think of swimming the smoke grub on TR like throwing a blade on other lakes. Won't keep me from fishing "the little deal" though .
Quillback Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I'm going to have to throw that smoke grub, getting tired of hearing you guys talk about it.

While there are things (like a good top water bite) that I like to do; I 'prefer' to do what ever it takes to catch fish.
