I was on a plane that aborted a landing due to an ambulance parked on the runway. What a ride. I think the average commercial plane can tolerate the maneuver far better than the passengers.

His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974

One of the videos I saw mentioned that they'd be flying it out of there tomorrow. Is that enough time to inspect everything? Seems like the stress from a landing like that would cause some structural concern as to the future service of that jet.

I guess they know what they're doing.

I put myself in the category of those who avoid flying. But my question is....isn't there usually communication between the tower and the plane in setting up the landing? At some point wouldn't the tower have said "we don't see you"??? Oh well....everyone makes mistakes, right?

I don't think there is a manned tower at either Branson Airport. IIRC, they are controlled from Columbia 100% by radar.

I was flying into Midway once, and just before touchdown the pilot pulled up and gunned the engines. That was scary to begin with, but he circled around and at one point while turning he was rolled darn near 90 degrees (I think). I was on the down side looking straight out at the ground, at a pretty low altitude and a really slow speed. He finished the circle, leveled out and then landed. On the ground he finally came on to let us know the landing gear warning light had come on and he showed the belly to the tower to confirm the gear was down. I had some close calls when I was landing F4s on carriers during 'Nam -- but nothing quite like that.

I've probably been on several hundred commercial flights in my lifetime back in my working days. Had a couple of those touch and go incidents, that's always a little spooky.
