Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 14, 2014 Root Admin Posted January 14, 2014 Shot this yesterday. Trying out a new camera.
tho1mas Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Nice - You make it look easy. Looks like Jackson is doing okay.
Seth Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I've started using this retrieve while fishing jigs at Meramec instead of the traditional reel and shake retrieve like everybody else does. Letting the jig drop seems to produce more strikes instead of them just following it all the way back to the rod.
Flysmallie Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 How do you like that new camera? Been planning on a GoPro but this looks interesting too.
ollie Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I must look like a spaz when I retrieve the jig then! lol "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Members capndan Posted January 14, 2014 Members Posted January 14, 2014 What size line do you use and is it mono?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 14, 2014 Author Root Admin Posted January 14, 2014 Trilene 4 pound XL
Travis Swift Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Do you always use that line Phil? What about a tippet? I'm assuming when the water is running 4 pound no tippet and when its off 4 pound with a 2 lb tippet?
Ham Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Phil is an excellent jig fisherman. I haven't gotten to fish with him yet to compare jig fishing techniques. i Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 15, 2014 Author Root Admin Posted January 15, 2014 Line- it all depends on water clarity. After the lake turns over, our water is dirty. it will clear up by late spring. When it's dirty. like now, I use 4 pound line regardless if the water is on or off. Unless I start using Turner's micro jigs or a small fly (water off). I know Babler uses 2 pound Vanish but it's diameter is comparable to 4 pound Trilene except it's fluorocarbon. Even when the water is clear in the summer/fall, if the water is running hard, I use 4 pound. It's debatable if I'm missing fish.
