dtrs5kprs Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 So many ways to rig a tube, so little time... I watched a "Hook and Look" show a couple of weeks ago, they fished Bull last spring and were tossing the tube, stupid rigged, on spinning tackle. They have a diver doing some underwater filming, and they were showing the smallies come up and grab the tube as it was falling through the water. Pretty neat to see. Bull is an awesome tube lake. In fact it was Bry from over on the Bull forum that turned me on to the stupid tube setup. Lots of folks have forgotten, or never learned, that you can use tubes for things other than flipping and bed fishing. Would be interesting to know how many folks still carry and use the "small" tubes- original 3&1/2" gitzit types with thin walls.
Champ188 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I carry some of the thin-wall Zoom tubes, mainly in white or chartreuse for bed fishing. Otherwise, I'm pretty much sold on the Mizmos.
Quillback Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 When I was looking at boats, I talked with a fellow who had fished the B.A.S.S. circuit and was a life long TR fisherman. He loved to fish tubes - that's what got me started on them. I have fished some Dry Creek 3 1/2" tubes, single walled, they have a color they call "Mud", kind of a cross between GP and brown - I've picked up fish on it. TW doesn't carry that color, you have to go to the Dry Creek website to get it. This is an interesting looking product they have just come out with for shakey heads. Long, skinny tube. I'm thinking maybe put a piece of Styrofoam in tube near the tentacles and get a nice stand up effect. http://www.drycreekoutfitters.com/product_p/590-dc.htm

I still have about 25 of them and am afraid to use them up! I will get some of QB's recommendations and try them. Does anyone still put a chunk of alka seltzer in a tube anymore? Champ188 1

Kinda the same deal where guys cut the end of a senko into some tentacles. Never tried it but would certainly give it more action.

I plan to fire up the the Skunk Works again soon.
