mjk86 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Coming from someone who doesnt fish wiggle warts and knows little about them, why are pre rapala sought after so much? Wider wobble? Also, I noticed on ebay some were pre rapala and sold for 12$ and others went for well over 100$, why the discrepancy? Do people just collect them and not fish them? Its like Wiggle wart mania on ebay geez!
merc1997 Bo Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 if you chase the yard sales in this area, you can often find off colored ones for next to nothing. buy them anyway and paint them. bo

It was extensively, and accurately discussed there. In short, has to do with "quirks" in the old Storm molds and molding process that cause the older baits to run differently. Sort of an erratic deflection off cover that the new baits do not have, as Rapala was kind enough to "fix" the molds. Also a different sound, and despite Rapala's attempts to reproduce the original colors there are significant differences in color. Craw colors are the top dollar items, because that is what a wart best imitates, and what they are most wanted for. Lots of trout and trolling colors that sell lower. Anything with a clear (even if has some paint accent) lip can go a little higher because these can be used to re-paint the phantom craw colors.
Alex Heitman Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 I lost my last phantom craw last time I was down. I did set a waypoint though so I could swim for it when the weather gets warmer ha

I don't know if the hook will rust out by then but its worth a chance to recover a bait that is going for $50+ these days. Then there are the rare colors that collectors are looking for such as the Pink Bengal Tiger which I have seen go on Ebay for over $200. I also saw a Red Prism (I believe that was the color) go for over $700. Lots of deep pockets out there with people where money is no object and they really MUST have it. Recently the SP-90 Missouri Craw color has basically double or tripled in price within the last year and is going for about $150 or more for a new in the box wart. The SP-90 would fall into the category of both a "fisher" and "collector" because they are used by fisherman and also are somewhat rare compared to the other craw patterns hence the price they are getting on Ebay for them.
Old plug Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I think i. ight have 4 or 5 of them I do not know. i put them in a plastic box with other stuff I do not use anymore

Wow, those prices have jumped! I've got to start checking out some garage sales.
Alex Heitman Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Yeah I seen the sp90 on eBay and the phantom ones. You better have a deep pocket for those. No way a bait is worth even close to $100 to me.
Quillback Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I don't think anyone who pays $100 for one is going to fish it. It's mainly collectors buying at that price.
Jerry Rapp Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 you may be surprised QB. BASS elites are coming to Table Rock this spring and FLW is going to Beaver as always. $100 wouldn't stop a lot of those guys from buying them if they thought it might help them win.
