inshore Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 istarted using vanish when I first tried fluro line. it sucked would nick knots wouldn't hold. mostly use braid now with fluro leaders. always tie with a uni-knot. for fluro leader I use fluro trout leaders. they are usually smaller diameter and are a lot tougher than fluro line.
Sprint21fter Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I use vanish and haven't had any problems with it, have tried other brands and some wouldn't cast very well and others were just real stiff. Vanish to me feels just right, it is a little softer and has great sensitivity and very stong.
Mitch f Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I only use the uni on everything, my confidence/blindfold/speed knot. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Old plug Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 To me the thing is about knots. Its been Proven the Polamar beats all. I use that and the clinch. I do not worry to awful much about it. If a 20 lb knot breaks at 15 it could be any number of reason. When I am fishing I run my fingers over the first few feet of my line now and then to check it for wear. The thing is it would take awful big freshwater fish to exert even 15 lbs of pressure on a line. If you doubt that put 15 lbs on the floor and take you best rod and reel and tie it to that. now just lift it off the floor. Guess what will break before you raise that 15 lbs off the floor.
Football Head Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Seaguar is the way to go in my opinion. I use the Palomar and Improved Clinch. Anyone heard anything about the new BPS KVD sig. series fluorocarbon being the same exact line as Seaguar InvzX?
Alex Heitman Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Football head. I doubt it is but I do know that KVD and his dad both use seaguar line. I've seen the tatsu in Kevin's boat. He won't advertise it but he uses it.

That is not true. Starting a few years ago they had "Knot Wars" that pitted 2 knots against each other in a bracket style elimination tournament and tested all the popular knots on all the different types of fishing lines on a calibrated machine that measured the tensile strength before the line breaks or the knot gives out. They did the test multiple times to give it a fair sample size. The Palomar is a good knot for Fluoro but it showed wasn't great with mono or braid from what I recall. Pretty sure the Trilene Knot won the Mono title and was very high on the Fluoro. I tried the trilene knot on 65# powerpro braid and got an A-Rig stuck 20 feet down in a cedar a lets just say it removed all doubt that a trilene knot would not hold with braid. I had to cut the line before that knot let go and I pulled it every which way and probably should have broken my rod with the force I was exerting on that line/knot like an idiot that wanted that multi-rig back. Sorry forgot the link to the knot wars video if you want to check them out: http://video.fishingclub.com/pages/knot-wars
Old plug Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 i watched those shows a as I recall the Polamar was the winner. does not matter any good not should work if you do not horse the fish.
Hunter53 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Here is the link I thought I was posting earlier. Shaw Grigsby says it is the best fluorocarbon knot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3I905PXIYww
Seth Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 The knot Shaw is tying is called the Double San Diego Jam knot. After tying a few, I can tie it as fast a polomar now. http://www.wired2fish.com/how-to-tie-the-doubled-san-diego-jam-knot/ My knot wars app gave the following scores to a few of the popular knots that most fishermen tie. Improved Clinch Knot: 20.4 (mono) 11.5 (braid) 13 (fluorocarbon) Palomar Knot: 17.37 (mono) 17.36 (braid) 15.11 (fluorocarbon San Diego Jam Knot: 17.76 (mono) 17.84 (braid) 15.25 (fluorocarbon) They didn't list the double San Diego, but I assume it's even better than the regular San Diego knot. For line to line knots, I have always used a double uni, but I will be learning and switching over to the modified Albright. Here are the numbers for those knots from Knot Wars. Uni to Uni: 10.17 (braid to mono) 10.53 (braid to fluorocarbon) Modified Albright: 12.97 (braid to mono) 12.65 (braid to fluorocarbon)
