Is this a park that the MDC would be interested in? Here in the Cornhusker state the Games and Parks run the majority of the lakes and ponds with a few being managed by a couple of Natural Resource Districts? We to have budget issues but the difference is the $$ generated stay with the G&P so that it can go back into improvements.

I have been to Viney - very nice and quiet

That is a very good point, but in reality, I don't think MDC would have the current budget. I still don't believe after the major retirements and layoffs several years ago that the enforcement division is at any kind of strength. They are cut so thin, I dread calling them on anything outside of some type of a dangerous situation. Hate to call and say someone has a short fish or one over the limit. Yes I know they are into land acquisition but I doubt they would want to run the park. It lost 14 Thousand dollars last year. It cost 44 thousand to run it and it took in 30 thousand, so I think MDC would frown on those numbers.

You cannot let a friend use your pass. Your vehicle lic number is recorded. You cannot even pass from car to car in the same family. Ever vehicle has to have its own pass.

AS has been stated the revenue goes into the general fund and the amount paid to go into the park is not the answer. The money that is budgeted is the question, and the number of park visits is what determines who will and will not be shut down. Viney has the lowest visits on TR and so it is the first to go.

Until congress passes a bill that retains the money from park fees and it goes to a fund to support the parks, money is not the answer. Really does not matter if it was a hundred bucks to use the park per visit per day. That is not the question, as that money does not have one bit of effect on whether the park is open or not.

It is hard as HE double L to understand, but that is the way this dog scratches its back. Until a bill is passed that is the way it will be.

Good Luck and thank you so much for your interest in the Viney Park

I was trying to find out some more information about the closing of long creeks ramp as the wife and I were thinking of putting in there one day while on our trip.

I got ahold of someone with the big bass tourny to see if they had any information since that is where their weigh-in is supposed to be. He had not heard anything about it and said he would get back with me.
He ended up telling me he talked with a (name withheld) at Big Cedar and his response was; 'We don't need to worry about long creek boat ramp. They are correct on the info given. I've been apart of lots of meetings on this. All I can say at this time to reassure the ramp issue is that it's not an issue at long creek but that there will remain a fee and it will be open.'
He also talked with a person who "runs long creek" and that person also said the ramps will remain open.

That sounds like they are going HWY 13 style.

That's a shame that our public ramps that taxpayers paid for and we do have to pay a fee/yearly fee to use these ramps and turn control over to private enterprise and our yearly tags are not recognized by these enterprises. HWY 13 used to be a very popular ramp for fishermen & club tournament use but not any more.

Do what the county count did at Stockton lake. They never let the Corp own thw lamd where the roads are so all ramps and roads leading to the lake are not to be closed. If they werre the local road de[partment opened them I have seen trees and other things blocking the road and I believe the Corp did it,but the loacls removed the obsticals. Chec with your county court and i bet all road to the lake belong to the county. I maneven got permision to build a ramp of of old 39 Hy. There are lot of things locals can do if they try. I worked with the us department of agriculture and even go ain air strip built with help of local contractors. Keep tryong.

The counties of Dent and Shannon are doing the same thing here on the Ozark national scenic riverways.
