Standing to fish is simply overrated.

Al you say a lot of smart things but occasionally you say something really dumb too. :)

What happened to just letting everyone do it their way? Your way works for you, I'm okay with that. I however like to stand. I'm not so ignorant that I go floating down a river trying to stand in a canoe but when I get a chance I like to stretch my legs. For those of you that think it's so difficult then give it a try, it doesn't take that long to get the hang of it. Or you can just sit down and fish. I have no problems with you doing that.

What are your thoughts on the Jackson Coosa?

Coosa is a great river kayak...doesn't track well on flat water though. It is also pretty heavy.

I actually like the nucanoe design. I tossed the idea around for taking my young son fishing with me and I may get one in the next few years for fishing southfork but for the weight IMO a coleman crawdad would be better.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Do what you like and like what you do. I fished out of my kayak today, standing and sitting. Walleye on the fly! I hurt when I set too long and hurt when I stand too long so I'm up and down all the time. The fishing report will come soon. As far as the nucanoe I have seen one in action. Seen the guy paddle like heck in some pretty good current to a bridge pier and smash crappie, then paddle back. A big guy too and I seen him pack it up and down the bank. There is a place in Springfield that last time I was in there carried the line. They are a trolling motor repair center. Can't remember the name of the place but they had one in the showroom.

Pitching is flat out impossible while sitting down, unless what you call "pitching" is something other than what I call pitching.

I would say writing with your feet is flat out impossible. But....

The Nucanoe looks pretty nice. Might see if the local dealer will let you try it out and see first hand for yourself if it will work for you.

Have you looked at the Wilderness Systems Commander 120? I bought one last summer and love it. It's light enough I can throw it on my shoulder and carry to/from the truck and it has a pontoon hull that makes it more stable allowing you to stand and fish. I've even stood and paddled down river in it once in mild rapids on Elk to see what it would do and it did just fine. Still I mostly fish sitting down, but its nice to be able to stand if you want (especially when I have to retrieve lures from the trees). It also has 2 seat positions, so when I get tired I can move up to the captain's perch which makes it feel like a canoe. It's agile enough that I can work my way upstream and float back down if we aren't able to shuttle.

I bought mine from riverjim.com in Buffalo, MO where I could try out several different kayaks there on site and the Commander was by far my pick but he didn't have the Nucanoe to compare against. Not sure if he still does it, but when I bought mine he was taking 20% off MSRP.

Like others mentioned though, a narrow 16ft Jon boat is hard to beat, especially if standing is your main goal. Just depends on what waters you are fishing if its practical or not.

You're right, of course, but when I see people thinking about buying what I'd consider to be a craft that's ridiculously heavy and otherwise no better than lots of other boats, just because they advertise that you can stand in it, I want to throw out some things to think about.
