gitnby Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 After seeing all this hoopla about the 'old' warts, I decided to pull out my 'old' tackle box and see what I had? Found 5 that had the 'wiggle wart' imprint on the belly. One is an orange crawdad color MAG wart. I had put lead tape on the underside to get it to suspend when I was fishing LOZ a long time ago. peeled it off, and it still looks good. My best guess on the other colors are 2 (the oldest ones) that are maybe #62's. They look like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/storm-pre-rapala-wiggle-wart-fishing-lure-RARE-crawdad-color/321372977614?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.RVI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131017132637%26meid%3D6189146061965616227%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D20131017132637%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D371042802901 One definitely looks like a #121 (bright green with a silver bill) And the other one is a trout color, probably a #139. not sure whether any of them is worth anything, or if I should just put new hooks on em and start slingin em? I have used the newer version warts just this week, and the things I notice is that the newer ones don't need much tuning like the old ones, but the older ones seem to have a wider, more erratic wobble and stay down better on a slow, stop n go retrieve.
gitnby Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Oh, and the older ones had a much softer metal on the eye hook. Tuning them was fun! Ok, I'll admit ! Never liked using needle nose pliers. I often used my teeth to get that thing exactly right, and more than once I got a sting on my chin from the front trebles.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Bait coffin full of warts looks sweet dtrs5kprs! Mitch - I started replacing my wart hooks with the KVD Mustad trebles (Like most of my hard baits). Size 4 on the belly and size 6 for the tail. I was also considering the Owner ST-36's in Size 5. There was actually a thread a few months back on Wiggle Wart replacement hooks... Gamakatsu makes a 5 but it is frequently out of stock.
merc1997 Bo Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Pics of the Bait Coffin. Don't they look cute peeking out of there? IMG_7502.JPG IMG_7503.JPG IMG_7504.JPG Think I will run a cable tie or some paracord type cord through the "lock" holes to make a loop handle. When it is wet it is a pain to get out of a hatch. just curious as to what you throw when they are not biting wiggle warts, which appears all you have. if you have the same amount of other cranks, you need to seriously think about opening a store. bo

Let me put this as mildly as I can. The man is more than ready to fish any water at any time with any lure or type of presentation that the particular location warrants, regardless of the type of bait. You just saw the wart box. Did I see 4 V38's peaking out at me? At this moment I'm sending the pic to his wife with a stern recommendation for him to be watched at all times regarding the purchase of any further fishing tackle or equipment. On another note, we will not be taking any photo's of my tackle shop. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

Agreed, I know he carries at least 20 pounds of single tail grubs for the traditional April grub bite at Tabke Rock!! my hero "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Old plug Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Let me just say Bill a lot of fishermen are depending on the lure and not their skills with the lure. That is why in spite of going through that stage myself I mostly confine myself to a couple general categories of lures types and a few colors that I understand backwards nd forwards.

But yes, I also carry bandits, ff shad, Normans, bombers, etc. Yes 4 V38s, but one is new. Also a couple of painted 38s in the back row. Might be a few painted bandits in 38 floating around as well.
Quillback Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Well...first off I don't like crankbaits much generally. Man, I am wondering how many you would own if you LIKED to fish CB's!
dtrs5kprs Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Man, I am wondering how many you would own if you LIKED to fish CB's! It would be grim. Fortunately I also have my handy boat deicer this am...a solo cup full of hot water. Even the ignition was frozen. 730 is looking good.
