skeeter Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 The 10% ethanol requirement is more about air pollution reduction than subsidizing corn growers. Not true. It was claimed to be all about about lowering imports of foreign oil. Ethanol has its' own pollutants and was "sold" to U.S. Legislatures at both State and Federal level by the powerful Ethanol/Corn Lobby as a "renewable" fuel source to supposedly lessen dependence on foreign oil imports. So far, Federally mandated 10% Ethanol gasoline content has made thousands of corn belt farmers fabulously wealthy, raised food prices beyond belief, including meats, and has cost the U.S. citizenry untold billions of dollars in mechanical repair bills. At least, in 2012, Congress finally put an end to the ethanol subsidy.
Hunter53 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 " Premium gasoline is exempt from this requirement" Does this mean that premium is ethanol free? Premium is not always ethanol free. Seems most times it is but it doesn't have to be. Just make sure to look on the pump to see if it has had ethanol added to it. By law they have to label the pump if it has had ethanol added.

You can have as big a woody as you want about corn but there's just no disputing the fact that adding 10% ethanol to gasoline results in lower tailpipe emissions of several pollutants.
fishinwrench Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 It is all "combustible fuel". Engines run on it. It goes bad when exposed to air for a period of time. Fuel hoses and rubber components have NEVER lasted forever, and they still don't. ........................................................... Nothing has changed, really.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 " Premium gasoline is exempt from this requirement" Does this mean that premium is ethanol free? The pumps here are marked as such' Ethanol did put Heat out of business didn't it? Like getting a free treatment in every tank. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
skeeter Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 It's a far less troublesome oxygenate than MTBE. Very true, just ask the City of Santa Monica, CA about that where MTBE leaked into the ground and polluted their wells. One teaspoonful pollutes the contents of the proverbial "Olympic sized" swimming pool. Both additives are bad news.
Bill Babler Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I have been getting a kick out of the hose deal. At our resort on Lake O. in the late 60's and early 70's it seemed we replaced fuel hoses most all the time especially from a 6 gal tank to the motor. They were always cracking and breaking and getting soft and hard. I really do not believe this is the issue. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

I used to replace them as a complimentary thing, but I can't afford to do THAT anymore.
mjk86 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Wrench....thats because the ethanol destroys them so quickly that there is a shortage!!
fishinwrench Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Rubber is the new GOLD. Kinda funny that I've been buying complete outboards for less than the cost of one BFG A/T 16" tire.
