fishinwrench Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 You can easily make an aspirin head with a hammer. The aspirin head shape cuts thru the water easier, which helps if your fishing a dam that's generating hard. What I would like is to have someone upload a couple of pictures of the Zig jig head from different angles so you can see the difference in the Zig jig and the regular aspirin head. Yeah ! What HE said. Sheesh!
ness Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 In fact I didn't know people still used marabou. Score one for the tackle industry there! John
BFTMASTER Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I have so many PJ's that my next order will be Zig Jigs. I have a very busy life and trying to tie my own is not an option for me. I think the joy for me in Jig Fishing is working to figure out which technique the fish like for the day. Once you figure out the twitch, pause, speed, color, size, etc. you can light them up.
LittleRedFisherman Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Here ya go fellas, dug these out of my tackle box. The white one is a PJ, and the Olive is a Zig jig. There's actually more difference than I thought when I compared the two, never really done that before. The zig jig comes to a point at the top as compared to the asperin head of the PJ. Also you might notice there more wrapping on the zig jig as well. As far as the marabou there both about the same the best I can tell. The third picture shows the lopsided head pretty good. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Mitch f Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Thanks, do they spiral down like a falling tube? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
LittleRedFisherman Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Not really that I can tell, they basically instead of falling straight down after you jig them, they dart in a different direction every time it seems, just a little more life to it. Nothing drastic, but a little added action.. Ham should chime in on this, he has a lot more experience with them.. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Ham Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I've never seen them spiral down. I'm usually fishing them in current which is dominates the fall of the jig. They seem to glide down more than a ball head jig would and maybe have a little random slide in whatever direction the nose points to at the end of a twitch BUT the impact of the current on the jig as it quickly glides down is the main thing.
