Guest Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 thank you for that tip...I was trying to find heads with keepers of some sort. I was really beginning to not like the Elaztech because it wouldn't stay on any of my jig heads, trying to get the Elaztech swim baits (for a-rig) on a jig was near impossible, and they can't be stored with other plastics. With that many strikes against them, I am wondering if it is even worth the effort/price....and now I need superglue to make them fishable?? Its worth all the effort
Guest Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Like these? Ned Jigs.JPG Just make your own! Much cheaper in the long run and you can control the hook and not have to worry about burning gas running to the tackle shop that may not have the size you want. This is a picture of the mold I used. I learned this trick from either Ham or Dutch, (can't remember). Just take a regular, non weed guard round head Do-it mold and take a standard Do-it mold wire weedguard and place it in the mold in the right position and clamp it in place with a C Clamp and smash the shape into the mold....works great! ned mold.jpeg looks good, I want the 1/32oz if you dont want them
Bitethis Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 how much "worm" beyond the hook is needed to make them effective? Just enough for wiggle? if you have a 5" worm, and you cut it in half, then 2.5" worm on a 1.5" shank leaves 1" of worm free...is that enough to make these effective? I was using a whacky rig jig last week just because the hook was short, and it left plenty of worm at the end. With the superglue, would you just put it on the shank, by the bese of the jighead, or just on the base?
Quillback Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Mondotackle.com now sells shroom heads in 1/8 and 1/16 with a choice of manufacturers (all size 1) hooks, at least on the 1/16. They are unpainted (except chartreuse) and lacking weedguards.

This is one of the many problems with larger hooks. Use the glue at the back of the head. Idea is to glue it to the head, not the hook. Loctite gel, silver/blue or black/blue bottle. The elaztech is key, and worth any work arounds required. Keep them in the original bags, except for a few rigged for one day at a time. On the glue vs. flapping...Ned actually lets his flap around like that, and believes it is a plus at times. I have caught them both ways. I like it straight because the twisted worm creates more line twist, and mimics pressure bites when you lift up on the bait. It is not that the flapping keeps you from catching fish. For the A-rig using things like the Diesel Minnowz, try an old school HP hook with the clip (the Shaw Grigsby tube hook), or a screw lock shakey head. Cut the screw lock off and simply run the bait up on the no collar head that creates, with a little glue to keep it against the head. Same concept works if you want to run the full size stick as a shakey worm.

Having held them in hand, the barbs on those heads are pretty large.
gitnby Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Another little trick I've used is to take the worm at the cut end, squeeze it between your fingers so that it 'bulges' out at the cut end and then take scissors or a knife and cut that little bulge. that creates a concave end that you can then put a drop of super glue in after you run the hook thru. push it up on the head and it stays great, and you don't get super glue dripping all over everything.

They will work though.
