Sore Thumbs Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I am a generation in between the younger and older generation of fisherman. I understand both points of view as far as like ability goes. I get the younger guys who like the flat bill hats, cool shoes, pimped out trucks and boats. I like some of that stuff myself. I think with Palanuik, it kind of has that Tiger Woods feel to it. BASS is shoving him down our throats constantly. It's not really Palaniks fault, but he seems highly over exposed. As for the older guys liking the older fishermen. I'm sure it's revisionist history that fuels their like for these guys. They are the old guard to the past. They aren't flashy just good ole boys who like to fish and respect the sport. People like Mark Davis who is a heavy set guy, no longer exist in this sport because companies want good looking, charismatic guys who are in shape to represent their product. I picked up fishing about 6 years ago and there is a noticeable difference between now and just 6 yrs ago as to how the sport is covered. Being 40 yrs old I see both sides of this issue. Just seems like the sport is becoming more about products and less about actually fishing.
magicwormman Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 KVD is certainly due to win on the Rock. I've always been surprised at his past performances on the Rock. I know that he is best friends with Stacy King and normally stays with him when he's in town. With help like that you would expect great things. One of these days the conditions will fit his expertise and he'll win one on the Rock. I think the wart will be the deal, with the jerkbait catching a couple of kicker fish.

Due to exposure to bass clubs I turned 50 just after my 21st birthday. One of the big shifts was the fragmentation of talent with FLW, and the PAA. Then the format changes. Think there are a ton of these guys who would not have survived the old BASS Invitationals. KVD is certainly due to win on the Rock. I've always been surprised at his past performances on the Rock. Think VanDam will have trouble slowing down enough for the Rock. That fast stuff is great in grass lakes, not so much highland lakes.
arsenal1477 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 It seems as though the general consensus is jerkbaits, crankbaits and a little jigging action thrown in. Do you guys think the bass will be all over the water column or do you think the bass might be migrating to the secondarys and holding steady in preperation of the "deed"? I only ask becuase you guys know the temps, water level and overall activity of the ladies down there. Gauging by everyones comments and I think someone stated it earlier, that the lake is going to fish big and that there most likely will not be just one true way to hammer it out. I am a firm believer of the wart and that it will make its appearence in a big way that week-end. Any thoughts as to where they will find 'em?
Alex Heitman Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Depends on the conditions as to where they will catch them. If the weather stays steady and farily warm, I think they will catch most in shallow wether they are on the bank or suspended in trees in 10ft or less.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 It is tough to fish the same way across a week at Table Rock in spring. Usually too many weather changes.
Quillback Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Adaptability may be a key. Aaron Martens has a rep of being a drop shot, shakey head guy, but he can fish cranks and jigs also.
