Weather was iffy Tues. but I took a chance. Pretty windy, I really earned these fish. Landed 13 Crappie and a 3 lb. White. Big news was 7 of the Crappie were between 13-15 inches with big thick girths. Lost a couple more monsters at the boat cuz I left my net at home (however if I had brought the net I probably would have been blanked). Don't hang up your fly rod with trout season. There's a window of opportunity in the spring when it is the tool of choice for white bass and crappie. I make my own jigs on Matzuo black nickel hooks (well worth the effort),store bought fly rod jigs are all pretty useless.Weak points, wire that straightens and rust prone. They work ok with trout but won't cut it for big boy fishing. I've enclosed a pic of the colors. They were stationed on isolated wind blown banks. Only caught one dink the whole day kinda supports the theory that larger fish tend to hang together. Water temp was 58 so it's still early. I'm glad to see there is still a large year class of big fish.

You can catch anything you want on the fly rod and a jig. Nice fish Roger.

Nice fish and nice jigs. I've only caught a few big crappie on the fly, but it sure was fun. I caught a few in really clear water where I was able to see the big girls slip up behind my little clouser and suck it in. It was pretty great.

I agree completely that there is a small window of oppurtunity to do this

Again, I love you jigs. I really like the Matzu black nickle sickle hook in a jighead. I was given a few and then paid to have a lot more made.
