Sprint21fter Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Looks like Mark Davis is casting a biffle hard head with a strike king plastic of some kind. Also, has some cranks tied on for decoys. Im sure he is throwing a crank to. GoPro from yesterday showed a wobblehead of some kind. He is definitely fishing a little deeper instead of in having the boat in 10-12ft he is off in maybe in 15-20 throwing up to 10ft.
Bill Babler Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Fished the Ice Berg today, just getting in. Started at 8 AM and finished at noon. The water I fished today had dropped from 57 degrees on Wednesday evening to 49 degree in my first location. In the second it had gone from 53 to 47 degree. The main White River Channel from Shell Knob Bridge to Hobbs Hollow had turned from a light brown to a turquoise green and there were 3 footers bank to bank in this stretch. I have never been that cold. We watched some Elite Anglers fighting the wind and waves. Their trolling motors would jump completely out of the water. Their Marshall's were wet from spray and looked totally miserable. It was just to rough for me to fish. The locations that we fished on Wednesday had huge waves crashing in on them. There were wrapped boats on every bank up there just going down the banks, not fishing anything in particular, just fishing. Never saw one catch a fish, but that does not mean they did not hammer them. We ended the day with 14 fish with 3 solid keepers, 1 K and 2 LM. Caught everything on a rig and a jerkbait off the bluffends. Tried to throw a wart, but it was just to lite in that much wind. It would blow a 10 ft. bow in the line and just scate the bait over the boiling surf. Anyone that caught them out there in this stuff is one heck of a stick, it is just now 47 degree with winds gusting to 40 mph. Way to hard for me. I start shivering just thinking of that boat ride from the Kings River back to State Park. It would be totally horrible, with cold wind and big waves. Good luck to all that braved this extremely cold windy day. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
fishingaddiction Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Martens fished a stretch of shore in my cove earlier today. I didn't see him whack any. I hit a windy point this morning and holy Kentuckies!!! They were stacked up like cord wood. Why didn't you holler at Martens and tell him where your pet fish are located? LOL Don't catch all of those spots until I get over there late today. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Members pbd Posted April 4, 2014 Members Posted April 4, 2014 Ish suggested we fillet our 13'' spots, shame on him I think Kentucky implemented a shorter limit on Spots. It seems to have drastically improved the overall quality of all Bass species. I'm a huge advocate of catch and release, but those 12-13 inch Kys are mighty tasty!!!

Why would it improve the quality of bass fishing.? Have no idea how that works, taking fish out of the population making it better. Does Kentucky have a problem with the forage base in its lakes? We do not have any problem with feeding the ones we have in here. If we put several million more we still won't have any problem feeding them. As a matter of fact I wish we did have several million more. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

We shouldn't feel bad because we had several good spawns. Honestly, I catch as many or more 12"-13" brownies compared to K's. Can't imagine anyone wants to lower the minimum on the jaws. Has a lot to do with where and how you fish. If you fish up the White, and fish fast, you will catch more of those spots.
Quillback Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I haven't seen many skinny TR spots, they are all fat and healthy. I don't know if keeping more of them would lead to a better overall size.
Bill Babler Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Full is full. If there is more to eat than you can possibly swallow what difference does it make how many are eating. I unfortunately have been practicing this all Winter. I have never in 25 yrs. of guiding full time on Table Rock lake had one person complain about catching a bass of any kind. Let along a 13 to 15 inch Spotted bass or Smallmouth. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Jerry Rapp Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 LOZ has had a 12 inch limit on spots for many years, and the lake is doing very well. Al Agnew and others always support removing as many spots as possible out of the rivers so the smallies can grow bigger. Would removing a bunch of spots let the TR smallies get bigger? Maybe Dale Hollow size fish are possible? 6 to 8 lb smallies, I think 99% would like that. Maybe a 12 inch length limit on Spots would help keep the meat hunters from taking 15.01 inch long LM's and Smallies to the fish cleaning station? These debates are always interesting, but we do pay taxes so the "experts" can impose proper regulations.
OldMillRoad Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 No complaints on the spots! Are you at the weigh ins, Tim?
