abkeenan Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 You don't need as much light line as one would think on our clearwater lakes. The A-rig has blown that of the water. Although at times sensitivity goes a long ways. It is whatever one feels comfortable throwing. We had this conversation a few months back when someone had asked what kind of line to throw jigs on and I basically gave the same answer. Use whatever line you can get away with and go with what line suits the presentation best or what you wanted the intended action on the bait to be....need distance or need a crank to get deeper throw 10lb, need lower stretch on long casts with a fooball jig use 15lb, etc. etc.
Sore Thumbs Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Water had a little stain to it also. In clear water conditions I believe they would have went a little lighter on line size. That being said Brandon Card was throwing 8lb green flouro on his jerkbaits. Anything less than 10lb makes me nervous.
rps Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I put the Ned on a braid 10# with a 6 # leader. I throw my cranks on 8. I use 10 for pratically all else. Did I need much else?

You should try some 30# power pro on your top dollars. Let's you throw chuggers and fins forever, and keeps them on top.
bluebasser86 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 For anyone looking for a cheaper alternative to the Biffle Hard Head, one of OAF's sponsors Swing Oil Baits sells their verson for about half as much: http://swingoilbaits.com/SWING-JIG-SKU-227.htm Tons of powder paint colors to choose from too... And here my buddies are giving me a hard time for charging them $1 a head for them!
moguy1973 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Good video by KVD on this technique https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwDydRoaqOI#t=24 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

PAT92B Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I went to Bass Pro in St.Charles, Mo to get some Rage Menace baits but they were all sold out except for the blue and white colored baits. Word must have gotten around.

bluebasser86 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 You need new friends. They ought to be saying Thank You. Ha! I know that's right. I fished a tournament at a local lake today and when my partner told someone I sold them for $1 apiece I got swarmed and sold every one I had in my tackle box in a couple minutes. Thought a couple guys were going to fight over the few 9/16oz ones I had with 7/0 mag worm hooks that I poured for dragging big worms in deep water. They're an awesome way to present a soft plastic and being able to customize the hook and head weight to the specific piece of plastic I want to put on them is a huge plus. I gave my partner a 1/4oz head with a 3/0 EWG Trokar and he was killing them dragging a 6" lizard on it. He was in love with it by the time we were done for the day and wanted to buy some. Had to explain to him that Trokars are just a touch more expensive than the Gamakatsu and VMC hooks I normally use on them.
