Bill Babler Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 We are just days away from a very good shallow topwater bite also. And do not forget the floating worms and sluggo type baits. Really the Keitech soft swimbaits are extremely light and work great. They just have to be handled with care and are a bait for an experienced fisherman that does not have casting issues. This bait is just as good as it gets, but they are EXTREMELY FRAGILE. Buster used to claim that the Yamamoto twin tail or the Yamamoto sinko was good for 1.5 fish. The Keitech is good for about A fish or even less if you give it a body slam. Carry plenty of super glue and do not be afraid to pinch a little off the head to re-hook it if it continues to slip down. Use every inch of that expensive thing up. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
fishingaddiction Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I had several come up to the surface busting shad early in the morning Saturday, so I agree that top stuff is not far off. As always they were just out of reach for a cast. Good tip on the fluke and floating plastics. Fished the Keitech swimmer some on a light jig head, the softness is part of what makes them so effective. Phil: I love your idea on the water balloons, you could put some fish formula in them. Mitch f Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Said he was in a tournament and if I wanted to fight him for the spot that is what I would have to do. Had a guy pull the same crap on me, he ended up 30-40 feet or so off the point. He was surprised when I trolled between him and the bank. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
rainbow Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Small balloons filled with dye and really smelly stuff... ready to be thrown at the guys who cut you off. Just a thought... Don't know if that is a good idea with the number of idiots who have conceal carry permits and have fishing rods. You never know when some guy will pull out a gun with out thinking and start slinging lead. We run into crazies on Taney all the time and we just move on.
*T* Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 The real "crazies" don't bother with a CCW. And if there is illegal, "out of line" shooting going on they will lose their Conceal Carry Permit or end up in jail. Don't start mixing those with CCW and the morons out there into one group. Typically not the case. There are a few but they should be weeded out. But, yeah, you are correct, just moving on from folks of that ilk is the best option. Champ188 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Just my opinion ... the more BASS insists on glorifying everything but the real essence of fishing, the more cockiness, rudeness and entitlement there is going to be on the water. Lots of people emulate the pros, and that's what they're seeing them do. It used to be that Ray Scott and others preached the importance of tournament anglers showing extreme courtesy and professionalism on the water. Now it's all about brighter boat wraps, acting like a complete psycho when one boats a fish, and generally being a total spectacle.
WeekendWarrior Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 We had small tourney Bill was talking of out of Schooner, no boat in our small club that fits description. We found fishing pretty tough in KC area. One guy in club had a limit of 11+ lbs. Sunday on a power fishing shakyhead (5 inch sinko on 5/16 or 3/8 oz jig head). Fish are definitely sitting under docks. Caught several kentuckies on my first experience with the Ned rig, boy does that require some patience. Went to some very backs of coves, nobody home. Couple of empty beds, with no roamers seen. Seems some fish are on 30 degree banks with timber, slow bite for our club but we only fish TR once a year. Happy fishing to everyone

Wasn't trying to lump the 'good guys" who have a permit with the crazies who probably pack with out it. Have had some friends run into those types on the highways and they don't hesitate to flash a gun. Had a bass boat come flying past us at short creek one time and I could have jumped into his boat. His reward was spooling 175 yds of brand new line around his prop shaft after he spooled me. We took on water over the stern but just shook our heads at him when he stopped and raised his birds nest motor.
OldMillRoad Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 These types of guys have been around a long time. I can remember fishing with my dad and it was a yearly occurrence to have someone cut us off like that, which led to several confrontations. My Pop was never one to not call someone on their arrogance and stupidity, so he would usually fire up the big motor and cut right in front of them. One time an old boy grabbed a tire iron out of his rod box and trolled over to us until my dad told him to never brandish a weapon that could be taken away and used on him. He backed off and finally left. I don't even get within 500 yards of someone when i see them on a spot, and sure as hell don't get in front of the bank they are fishing. But it happened to my son and I fishing a derby Saturday, dudes come rolling in about 40 yards in front of us in the back of a cut, drop the troller, and start chucking A-rigs at docks in 15 FOW. I just laughed and told my son lets go, there are hundreds of banks that fish the same way on this lake. So on to the next spot we go which ended up being a blessing, because we got on a pretty good bite. I hear you Bill on the green lawns that are springing up at all these folks houses on the lake. That goo is really nasty back in Wolf Pen and Little Wolf Pen hollow, the entire back end is loaded with it. Nitrogen rich run off and septic tank leaching is never good on a lake.
