Greasy B Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 A good long sleeve shirt keeps me much cooler than bare skin. On really hot days I dip it the the water then wear it to get evaporating cooling, at times it so cool I can hardly put it back on. Now that my physique more and more resembles that of a Buda I'm prone to keep my shirt on anyway. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974

Old plug Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Me too. If I ran around out there with no shirt I might stare any children in the viewing area. It has happened. I got some surgical scars that make me resemble the Frankenstein Monster.
Jerry Rapp Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 5 years from now 'they' will be saying that sunblock causes cancer. Call me stoopid but I'm of the thinking that my body doesn't require commercial chemical products to survive in the climate that I was born into. I love the sun, and the way it feels on my skin. Been "overdosing" on it all my life and have no desire to stop (or block) now. Pretty sure that carb cleaner, nail polish and hair spray fallout is gonna kill me way before the sun does. LOL it wouldn't surprise me FW, now maybe you can be obese, and o.k., but do you still need sunblock? http://www.foxnews.com/health/2014/05/01/obese-and-healthy-maybe-not-study-says/?intcmp=obnetwork
Al Agnew Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Dermatologist has told me twice now rhat I have the kind of skin that is least likely to develop cancers, but to still take care of it. Mom and dad both had same kind of skin, spent a good part of their lives in the sun, never wore sunscreen, and lived for a long time.

Nobody in my fsmily had much trouble with arthritis but It has chewed me up real good. No, I'm a little careful. I wear long sleeve shirts and long pants (quick dry nylon type) when fishing, and a wide brimmed hat. However, I'm not anal about it, and I try to expose myself to the sun a little at a time in the spring so that I tan and don't burn. I suspect that a lot of the problems people have is because they let themselves get sunburned every spring instead of letting their skin slowly tan and build up the pigments that protect from the sun. I also suspect that what really causes a lot of skin cancers is living and working indoors for most of the time and then getting exposed to the sun when your skin has had no chance to build up those pigments. I know I don't spend as much time in the outdoors as a percentage of my waking life as I did when I was a kid and was brown from March to November.
ness Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 We'll, I'm the classic candidate for it -- fair skinned, blue eyed, lotsa of sunburns when I was young. It's just a matter of time, I'm sure. I get checked every year. So far so good. I carry the aerosol sunscreen in my car all the time now -- so much better than the old creams to apply. John
Old plug Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I have been thinking about those nylon pant AL. do they come in a cargo pocket style.

Neither one ever had skin cancer and my mom was a red head. As Scotch Irish if we ever develop skin cancer, we can always drink and sing about it! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
