Yesterday, just before the rain, I was throwing a crawdad colored Hot n Tot in the very clear upper white river a little piece above a riffle. I got a powerful strike, and it turned out to be a nice channel cat about 18 inches. Is this sort of a fluke, or could it happen often? Could not try again today as the river is up and muddy now.

Cats will smack a plug fairly often. More so as the water warms up.

I caught a good 3+lb flathead on a deep diving Lucky Craft bait a few years back in Cliffty. I thought I had a hoss. Imagine my disappointment when I finally got it to the surface. He came home and got the hot grease punishment.

I've seen several catfish bit bass jigs and crankbaits too. I didn't think it was that common but I've seen and heard that it's not that uncommon if presentation is pretty slow.

A Carolina rigged Zoom Centipede catches more cats for me than any other artificial bait. Seems I catch a catfish or three everytime I throw one. Especially flatheads ...and often BIG ones.

I catch tons of channels and flatheads on cranks, jigs, and bladed jigs every year. Some days I catch more catfish than bass it seems like. I've caught several on buzzbaits and even one on a frog also. I got thumped by this pretty little flathead just 2 days ago.

Flatheads are suckers for a bass jig, and not just the little guys :have-a-nice-day:

Nice Pics of those flatheads. Those must have been fun pulling in. I have only caught one flathead, it was on the Mississippi River downtown St Louis bank fishing, about 14 inches long, but fought like nothing I have ever caught since.

On Grand Lake they hit everything! My son when he was like 9 caught a big old channel in a farm pond up around the Lou. The fish was as long as he was! lol
