That would be like giving a nuclear missile to a terrorist.

Naw -- more like a rifle to a sniper. And I'd only need two bullets. After the job was done I'd look up Ron Kruger and invite him back to the kinder and gentler OA.

At the risk of being scolded, can someone explain to me why any hunter or citizen for that matter, would need a gun/rifle capable of holding 30 rounds that can be discharged with the single pull of a trigger, one bullet after another, as fast as you can pull the trigger.

IMO that is the issue - do we allow these types of weapons or not?

Don't go all Charleton Heston on me. I am all for the rights of citizens to bar arms.

Because it is our RIGHT as guaranteed by the second Amendment. Reading the direct quotes from some of our founding fathers the reasoning for gun ownership was not just the ability to hunt for food but to defend ones self, family, state and country from attack and even from abusive government. Here are but a few.

Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation. . . Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." (James Madison, author of the Bill of Rights, in Federalist Paper No. 46.)

As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms." (Tench Coxe in `Remarks on the First Part of the Amendments to the Federal Constitution' under the Pseudonym `A Pennsylvanian' in the Philadelphia Federal Gazette, June 18, 1789 at 2 col. 1)

And this is probably one of the most powerful

Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people" (Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788)

And the reasoning

"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike especially when young, how to use them." (Richard Henry Lee, 1788, Initiator of the Declaration of Independence, and member of the first Senate, which passed the Bill of Rights, Walter Bennett, ed., Letters from the Federal Farmer to the Republican, at 21,22,124 (Univ. of Alabama Press,1975)..)

There are many more and these are the words of those who wrote the Constitution and Declaration. That is why we should be able to without INFRINDGEMENT! Our founders meant it to be that way so WE THE PEOPLE could insure Liberty and if need be Toss out an oppressive government.

I will leave you with this though as not once have I heard it brought up. If guns are so evil why do people need knives they can run down a hall at a school and injure 20 people? It is not the inurnment object that is the problem! It is the person using it.

JD slipped and said state, which I could argue if you can't have a gun in any part of a state then it qualifies as the same difference.
