Greasy B Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Great fish, way to go! His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Mitch f Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 nice fish Seth....congrats!!! and it's okay to hold them out and get a better pic as long as your sneaky about it! LOL "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Flysmallie Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 as long as your sneaky about it! LOL I've always had mixed feelings about this. People have been holding fish way out for a long time. I've got some old pics from the 70's that can prove that. First I think it's fine as long as you are not portraying the fish to be bigger than it actually is. But that's usually easy to figure out. Secondly, I feel that when holding it out it makes a better image. Consider a kid holding a trophy. You want a good image to capture the moment. Do you want a picture that shows them holding that trophy against their body? Or do you want to add a little depth and character to the shot? There is no right or wrong answer. It's all personal preference. Some people want to take the picture as proof and to remember the occasion. And that is great. But there is nothing wrong with turning it into a piece of art while you are at it. Nothing against your comments Mitch. I hope I didn't offend anyone, not trying to. It's just one of those things that has always bothered me. And some folks are even worse about "hero" shots. I have no problems with how you hold them in a picture, I would just encourage everyone to not worry so much about these small rules that society tries to place on us and just worry about getting a nice image that you will be proud to share. And if some bodies first comment is "yeah well you sure are holding it out to make it look bigger" or "nice hero shot", then punch that dipshit in the throat. And most importantly, Nice fish Seth! Beautiful fish. Â Â
Old plug Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 You put the tape to it and took a picture there is doubt then.

Beautiful fish. None taken. If the fish gets shoved up too close to the camera, you cant see the person's face or surroundings, which adds to the whole package. I think Seth not only caught a monster but did a great job photographing the fish! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Seth Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 This one didn't need any help with long arming anyways. Long arming isn't something I purposely do. Sometimes my pictures make a fish look a lot nicer than it really is though without even thinking about it. I'm not innocent when it comes to long arming all the time. I've got my arm stretched out pretty good with this 18 incher I caught last year.
Seth Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 You put the tape to it and took a picture there is doubt then. A big fish ain't legit with the "no way it's that big" posts. I wonder how much bandwidth I saved the forum by posting a pic of the length and proving it really is as big as I said? Maybe I should have saved it for later and let the naysayers have some fun for a while.

Beautiful fish. 100% agreed....I was giving Mitch shiot.....we give each other shiot all the time. I am one of the biggest offenders of holding a fish out but, Ronnie as you said I'm am not trying deceive anyone ay all. I will be studying the image after the fact like a dork at night before I go to bed......I want the best image possible of the fish. With the digital era I can sit there and look at at fish pics for hours, right on my finger tips. I love maps and photos.....I'm always measuring fish now so I know how big they actually were, I never want to fib about the size of a fish......just want a better image of the bronze beauties.....I know....I'm a dork.....I have been holding those fish out forever and when I'm taking pics of people i make them hold it out and usually they don't want to.
