I have owned both. Presently I have a 2010 MK Terrova that I later upgraded to I-Pilot. It performs exactly how it should. I do wish the recovery design were a bit easier.

Bought my first Minn Kota 18 months ago after a lifetime of owning MG. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I'm running the 101-pound Fortrex with Lift Assist and a built-in bounce buster. The mount is as sturdy as any MG that I've ever owned and there's no slop or flop on plane in rough water. As Bill pointed out, the biggest adjustment for me was getting used to the location of the off/on switch.

I'm also happy with my Fortrex and the lift assist. Never have owned a Motor Guide, but it sounds like they are just as good.

Just as champ said. I too have the fortrex and would never go back to mg.

Yes the boys touched on a very good point with the lift assist. There is somewhat of a learning curve on the MG if you have not had one.

MG has a new remote control motor that is very much like the I pilot. I know Rick Lisek has had both and represented both companies, and I believe he much prefers the MG to the I pilot. This is on his flat bottom Alumaweld Trout boat.

Wait two months and they will all change anyway. For cripes sakes there is something new on the market as soon as I get one mounted on the boat it is outdated.

Or an app you can run from whatever mobile device you have. It's not that far fetched..

Not at all we already have Bluetooth connectivity with power poles. I haven't compared mg and mk too closely but I have two fortrex 80s that treat me just fine. No bouncing or any problems in rougher water and pretty easy to stow and deploy.

I grew up on MG, but I'll do my best to never own another one. I love my MK Fortrex. I have the 24V 80lb. The button on the other side takes some getting used to though.
