Members austin14 Posted July 30, 2014 Members Posted July 30, 2014 I'm starting this topic because I thought about how we and Bass masters used to catch big fish before the side scan, down imaging, and 360 scan, until I watched every bass master say " I always look at my Fish finder and idle around to indicate big fish and surrounding structure" and right after they found an area they fire there lure in the water and pull out a 6 pound bass without even trying. In my opinion that takes the fun and "think and compare days" out of fishing making where if you got money to purchase the new touchscreen HD 360,side scan, down scan fish finder or what other new fish finder comes out your going to be winning tournaments every week until some one else buys a newer fish finder. Sometimes I understand you got the lucky person who brings in their fish and wins, but majority of the time its electronics that help bring in big fish. I on the other hand can catch 5 five fish now but the big one still isn't in our live well.but we had purchase almost $1,000 dollars in electronics before we could catch 5 fish to bring in to the scales, still the one who wins has the up to date electronics. Now if we catch a 5 lb. fish its a blessing to catch in a tourney. Remember before the electronics how people caught 25 lbs. of 5 fish........knowledge and luck.so what does the future of bass fishing hold for us.............
Feathers and Fins Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Electronics certainly help but I have yet to see one that can tell you with 100% certainty its a bass or walleye or carp. Yes over time good anglers can narrow down the possibilities but there is still that uncertainty and that is where the skill of figuring out the bait and presentation comes in. First came the flashers and those helped put people on fish and then the progression in technology but it has always remained the ability of the individual anglers skill in catching a fish that puts them in the boat or not. I have gone behind plenty of guys and put fish in the boat and had guys do the same to me. The fish may want a C-rig and I was throwing a spinner. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

J-Doc Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 You sir must have never fished Beaver Lake before. I can find massive fish schools and not get a bite. For that matter, it happened twice just Monday. Electronics helps you locate fish. Artificial baits help you catch fish. Graphite rods help you feel the bite easier. There is no "easy" way of catching fish unless you use dynamite or shock treatment. :-) I hear what you're saying but at the end of the day, they are just sharper knives in the drawer. Not a full-proof method for catching fish. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
jdmidwest Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 With all of the help, it still boils down to Fisherman's luck. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Old plug Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 With all of the help, it still boils down to Fisherman's luck. There is Luck. Like the old saying about education though there is the 3 R's of fishing. RIGHT PLACE RIGHT TIME and RIGHT WAY. In spite of all the help you ( and hinderance as well ) can get from a a graft. If you do not have the three R 's down that is all you got is luck.
Members cart7 Posted July 31, 2014 Members Posted July 31, 2014 I remember a time when some states wanted to ban the Lowrance Green boxes because they gave an unfair advantage to fishermen. LOL> You're much better off thoroughly learning the seasonal patterns of bass and perfecting your lure presentations vs spending thousands on electronic gear. The one thing about the good fishermen is they can catch fish whether they have $10,000 worth of 3D graphs on their boat or not.
Riverwhy Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Spear fishing and utilizing a high dollar graph are very similiar. You really can not compare a fisherman who relies on experience, instinct, water levels, weather conditions, amd lure selection and presentations to the spear and high dollar graph fishermen. It is two different forms of recreation. Both methods are legal and fun for the fisherman. Imagine if you are deer hunting in a large forested area and try to find the best location and select the best ammo and rifle and then compare your results to a similiar hunter who uses an aircraft to locate the deer in the forest. I would rather hunt without an aircraft spotter and I prefer to find my fish without a spear gun or a high dollar graph.
moguy1973 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 This is defintely the future of fishing. Brings a new meaning to "swimming with the fishes" -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Seth Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Just because somebody can afford those graphs doesn't mean they know how to use them. There are A LOT of guys who run those fancy graphs and never take them off the 2d screen. You could accomplish the same thing with a $300 unit. I've got Humminbird 998 on my boat and it is awesome for finding rocks and deep brush. The only time I've used it for actually look for the fish is when I am snagging since paddlefish are so big. There is no doubt when you mark of them with side imaging. Just because you find the fish doesn't mean you can make them bite. Making them bite is where the real skill comes in to play IMO.
