Mitch f Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I throw mine on 8 lb Nanofil with an 6 or 8 pound leader. I catch more panfish than bass and the bass I have managed so far have been small. I have lost the larger fish I have hooked. What's the reason you're losing the fish? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Ham Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 What's the reason you're losing the fish? Not holding my mouth right I guess. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Mitch f Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Not holding my mouth right I guess. Do you think the no stretch is pulling it out of their mouth because of the small trebles hooks? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
5bites Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 These spin baits have a lot less action, the props turn and the bait kinda rolls on it's axis. Jerk bait is going to have a wobble - but the jerk bait may work. I see. Well I ordered one. I hope it makes it before we go down there this weekend. I could also see this working around docks on suspended fish. Possibly anyway. The light line part bugs me about it no matter where I'm throwing it. I wonder if the g-fix would allow a bigger line?
Quillback Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 They claim the G-Fix can be thrown on a bait caster, so you think you could use heavier line. One of those things that you just have to try for yourself and see if it works.
Quillback Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Do you think the no stretch is pulling it out of their mouth because of the small trebles hooks? The hooks are small for sure, they look to be a short shank #6. I replaced the rear hook with a Dai-ichi #6 which has a longer shank. I'll try it next time out. I was using mono and a fairly slow action spinning rod last time I fished it and was still having fish come off.
Mitch f Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I've heard the Japanese recommend 4 lb test and a light action rod...that would be tough to get used to. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Quillback Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Yeah I've read that stuff and tried it that way and didn't have any luck. Best bite I've had so far has been with 6# mono and fishing it faster than they recommend - but this is for surface biting fish. I like 5bites idea of throwing it around docks.
Champ188 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I like 5bites idea of throwing it around docks. He wasn't talking about docks in the White River. There are no fish around those docks.
