Quillback Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I've lost too many bass on it, get them halfway back to the boat and off they come. I have to try some bigger hooks.
Ham Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I'm going to try larger hooks as well. I just don't think it's going to help withthe hard pops with no hookup. My bass bites have not been pops, they just load the rod. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Sac River Jim Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 i watched several vids and i remember someone saying some of the japanese fisherman spend up to 1200 bucks for a good spy bait combo. maybe the rods ive got dont load up good enough for the technique. I'll try my 6'10'' team lew's casting rod' if that dont help I sure cant afford spending big money on an outfit that will. i'll just wait for cooler weather and throw jerk baits.
Champ188 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Jim, a Lew's Custom Speed Stick spinning rod in the 7-0 Med Shaky Head model should be perfect. Tackle Warehouse sells them for $129. You could pair it with a Lew's Tournament Series spinning reel (TS300H is my favorite) for $79 and only be out about $200 for the entire rig. This setup would also perform well for shaky head or grub fishing ... even drop-shotting.

Champ188 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I was thinking you might be able to get one locally. Just using Tackle Warehouse for a price estimate. I think you'll find a 7-0 med spinning rod to be a valuable addition to your arsenal, especially for fishing Table Rock and also Stockton. Spool it up with 6-pound BPS Excel (green tint) and you'll be set.

Ham Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 All the fishing gear costs a ton in Japan. I'm sure they are using good stuff, but it might not cost as much in the US. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members mattholder Posted September 14, 2014 Members Posted September 14, 2014 I have had good success throwing the 80 Duo fish are under the shad and chasing through schools when I'm throwing it. I will see the fish on electronics and count the bait down to them and slow roll the bait back. The Duo 80 sinks at 1' per second so it's not hard to get it down. Going out Sunday I will mainly be throwing this and topwater! This should get better as the water cools!
