Members jimithyashford Posted September 11, 2014 Members Posted September 11, 2014 I keep an active license and I spend a lot of time each year on the water because, even though I'm not much of a fisherman, I am a hell of Frog Gigger, Turtle Hunter, and Crawfish trapper, and the same license applies to all of those activities as well. When down at Delaware Access a couple days ago, I had an agent show up and ask to see my license and check my stringer for the first time ever. So it occurs to me that in this state, holding an active license is pretty much just a show of support for the cause, since you can effectively fish for 5-6 years, in fairly public places, and never get checked. Have I just been lucky to miss agents all this time, or are they really rare as unicorns? And is that just Missouri or is that true of most states?

moguy1973 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I've been checked twice in 25 years of needing a license. And one of those was in Colorado. But you know that first time you don't buy one or don't have it with you you'll run into an agent and get busted. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
ollie Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I have been checked 5 times in the last 10-15 years on different waters throughout the state, but most of the time it has been in SW MO. Moguy you got that right! My brother forgot one year to get his thinking he had already bought his current one and got nailed with a $60 fine for not having it. Jason R. Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 The only time I fished without a license was in Florida and it cost me $125. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Greasy B Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Although I feel enforcement isn't nearly what it should be my experience has been different. I typically get checked once a year and often twice. I don't know why I get check more than most, it almost always happens at a public access. Over the course of a season I use many different access but I never hang around longer than it takes to load and launch. Of all the times I've been check the experience usually starts well and with a few exceptions ended well. fishinwrench Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Be thankful ! Who the hell wants to be hassled for their "papers" every time they are seen with a fishing rod?
Quillback Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 8 years here and have yet to be checked.

Flysmallie Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Geez I must just look like a criminal. I get checked at least every couple of years. Don't mind it at all.
