Ron Burgundy Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I've caught several while walleye fishing above Beavertown on chubs. Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
vonreed Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Very neat. I caught and seen my first one last year at the mouth of Beaver Creek on Bull Shoals. It sure is a shocker to pull it out of the water, wasn't it? And they are extemely slimy also to try and handle.
bluebasser86 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I've only ever seen one. I was C-rigging a 6" lizard, caught a 15" spot that spit out a still live salamander! Knocked him back in the water and away he went. I guess that fish really wanted a salamander for breakfast!
Quillback Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 What's a Ned rig? Apparently a hot rig to use for salamanders.

skeeter Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Found two of the endangered Ozark Hellbenders in our Crawdad trap a few years back. On a guess, after having read the article in the MDC "Conservationist" magazine, we took several close-up pictures of them and called first then forwarded the pics to the MDC biologist doing the Hellbender study and he verified they were the endangered species. Said up until then he hadn't considered looking for them in reservoirs. Glad you were able to release them. Thanks for the pictures. Recall the Biologist saying the true Hellbender does not have exterior gills at the back of the head.
dtrs5kprs Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Too cool. Saw one a couple of years ago but our Ned rigs were tied up with smallmouth at the time.
Buzz Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Cool catch RPS!!! If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Dewayne French Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 With smaller size and external gills that is a true "Mud Puppy" cool pictures?
