Sore Thumbs Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I have had the misfortune to be involved with a number of corporate mergers and acquisitions. The common thread in All mergers and acquisitions is three fold: 1) The larger business believes that they can finance the acquisition and create additional profits through cost reductions and operational "synergies" 2) The purchase expense is far less than the cost of competition in the marketplace 3) The purchase/acquisition cost buys the former competitors proprietary and patented manufacturing processes...... (Bass Pro just acquired Ranger's patented pulltrusion technology as an example) I have never seen the larger / acquiring company not make substantial changes to the acquired company even if it takes a few years....just my 2 cents Well said Sir.
J-Doc Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Well said Sir. Agreed. I've heard this is how it goes also from others. Pultrusion tech. It's awesome. To be able to take a resin based product and make it so hard that you can tap and thread it like steel, become stronger than steel yet lighter than steel......and you can extrrude (in this case, pultrude) it is amazing tech. I don't see Nitro changing or adding this though. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Feathers and Fins Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I let this digest in a bit and my thoughts are this. Mako and Tracker are two very god boats I have owned both and no complaints on either. One thing I love is the no haggle here is your price. Also the warranty and ease of getting them serviced. This buy out by Basspro might be an exception to the rule of corporate take overs where products suffer. It might actually lower cost and increase quality. Basspro looks to be growing and growing and I don't just mean their Springfield store which is always under construction. Heck before long we might see Basspro neighborhood markets where you can buy all your fishing and hunting gear and all your groceries Maybe even gas with no Ethanol. Go ahead laugh but it might not be so far fetched. I find myself buying more stuff through them already, most mine and my wife's favorite clothing brands for sure and if the Kettlecorn cart is outside I can never pass it up. This might be a very good thing for boating https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Might not be that big in the end.

Members oldasdirt Posted December 12, 2014 Members Posted December 12, 2014 Let's face it anew world for sure. Top of the rock very neat place cost a ton. Service and what's on your plate not so much. Sure I buy a ton from bass pro why because it's handy I'm old school like to see what I'm getting selection well it's tackle wear house. I was at the dealer meeting disregard the price I feel they have the fishing market covered my fear is service and u can be assured that the quality of one will go up the other down. The pricing will also. To make it a non issue. It will be a Chev or a gmc comparison I'm afraid. Motors what a mess that will be. Merc vs g2 the rest or out. The incentive will be the who can make the best deal for the manufactor. Rangers or mostly made to order not trackers / nitro so volumn look for lots of merc. Me after running the g2 and getting into the merc. I felt the g2 was better one issue was the oil fill being under the top cover any spillage could be a mess. They would both get u down the lake but unless they really get the price down you will see lots of merc. But now or wait. Always a big question me I'm going to pull the trigger real soon the price may go down but in today's world most likely something will be sacrificed. Don't believe u can take a $ 70000 dollar boat to a $50000 boat and increase company profits. Just my 2 cents worth. Merry Christmas to everyone.
Members ktm3ten Posted December 12, 2014 Members Posted December 12, 2014 There are a few examples where the lowest common denominator doesn't win out. Brunswick bought Boston Whaler many years ago and while there have been some 'synergies' that haven't been positive (only available with Merc's), much of the unique features and quality that Whaler was known for (stainless everywhere, foam filled hulls, all tinned copper wiring, and phenolic backing) have remained. Turned out that Brunswick liked the idea they could charge more for a premium product. Unfortunately...what Bass Pro has done to Mako does not look promising for Ranger...
Sprint21fter Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Nitro is the most affordable boat package deal a person can get. However, by the time you rig one out the way a tournament angler would need one rigged out you are still looking at an easy 60 grand or more. All boats built now are very good. The only other thing to worry about is the service end at the stores. Johnny opens alot of doors for people who JUST need a job. Unfortunately, most of them don't know a jerk bait from a jig.
Guest Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Whatever happened to the affordable bass boat? The majority of anglers cant afford a $40-$50k boat.
